Author's note to follow."Didn't think I'd see you here."
The pungent smell of hospital chemicals fills the room when I enter. Lucas is propped up against three pillows, eating a sad looking garden salad.
"Me neither," I remark, scanning the room quickly.
"He's not here," he smirks. "He will be soon, but he left to get something to eat."
I feel my cheeks tinge slightly red from embarrassment. Lucas knew me too well already.
"I wasn't looking for Rhys," I defend.
"How did you know I was talking about Rhys then?" he retorts with an evil grin.
I huff, rolling my eyes and shutting the door behind me as I step further into the room.
The bright summer sun gleams in through the large window over looking the car park. I notice the heap of get well soon cards all lying on the sill, piled up on top of each other. The dying bunch of roses, desperately needing a refill of water.
"How are you feeling?" I ask, taking a seat next to the bed.
"Sore. But each day is better. The migraines are dulling down now too. I'd classify them as headaches now," he smiles.
"I really am—"
"Don't apologise again," he sighs, "you can't blame yourself for this. Besides, the CeCe I know wouldn't apologise for something like this. She'd probably try to blame me," he jokingly chides.
"That was before I knew you," I mumble.
"I know," he nods, sternly. He reaches over to ruffle my hair but I swat his hand away gently.
"As long as that piece of shit goes away forever, I am more than happy to have been of service to you. Even if I did lose a few brain cells at the hands of a bat," he snorts.
"He will," I nod. "He's been charged and I don't see how a court could possibly find him not guilty. Tom will die in prison. Just like he deserves."
