We people fall short of God's glory. We sin and our sin leads us to death... In the story you've read, well, the man fell off the cliff and his blurry sight signifies that.
With our sins, we cannot save ourselves. I mean how can you possible climb up halfway in that rocky situation you are in... you probably have bruises everywhere and tired with both your hands holding on a branch to support you...Also There's gravity too.
I mean you can try to save yourself but it will only be a waste of time since I've mentioned earlier and now i quote, "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) And since sin leads to nothing but death.
You need someone to save you from death. And you need Him fast, or you'll die and suffer eternal death. Be in hell for eternity.
We need a savior, whom we can trust and know for certain that he is able to save us during our darkest moments.
God is aware that we can never save ourselves, we can't pay for the sins we have committed against Him. As written in the scripture in Ezekiel that the soul that sin shall die, we deserve death for disobeying our Creator... But because of His love towards us, man, He aimed to save us from going to hell with the life of His Son, Jesus Christ... That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John3:16).
