"Hey!" Gennie said as she hopped over to me with a big smile on her face.
"Hi." I said. Then the bell rang."Okay, okay. Settle down class." our history teacher Mr. Cameron said. The class got quiet. "Today I will be assigning you a project. I will put each of you into groups of two."
"Gennie you'll be with Alex." he said after awhile. "Now get into your groups." Mr. Cameron went around the groups giving each one of them a different topic. Ours was what we had done over the summer. Then the bell rang. "Hold on don't leave yet. This project is due on Monday. " he said. Then we were dismissed. We went to class after class and just sat there and talked. Then lunch came and passed. "You may get on your phone or other devises." our study hall teacher said.
"Hey,Alex, is it okay if I come over this weekend to do the project?" Gennie whispered.
"I have to ask my mom, but I don't see why not." I replied. So I texted my mom and she said it would be okay. She texted her dad and he said that she could come over.I still have yet to catch the tall guy's name.
We get off the bus at my house. Gennie looks up at it and her eyes seemed to light up. It was no bigger than any other house in the entire town, though it did have a lot of flowers and stuff that girls like.
Gennie interlocks our arms as we walk through the door. I am a bit confused by this action but I don't make a big deal about it. "Mom, I'm home!" I called out into the house. Then all of a sudden you hear foot steps run across the house. My mom is standing there in the door way of the living room breathless.
"Hi, I'm Alex's mom, Brenda. You must be Gennie." my mom said. Gennie nodded her head as she curled up on to my arm. "Well it's nice to meet you."
"Uh,Mom, do we have any empty boxes?" I asked.
"What for?" my mom asked.
"School project. I figured it would be cheaper to use a side of a box instead of buying poster board."
"Yeah, of course!" My mom took off to get a box. "Uhh... would you like anything to drink? We have water, juice, or I can make a milkshake." I said as Gennie sat at one of the bar stools at the counter. "I don't care." she said softly. Not like her usual loud, bubbly self.
"Then a milkshake it is." I smiled.I was about to hand Gennie her milkshake when my mom came in yelling,"I found one!" It scared me so bad I accidentally spilled the milkshake on Gennie. She had it all in hair and all over her shirt and pants. "I am sooooo sorry." I apologized. I thought she was going to be so mad, but she said, "It's fine. I have had worse stuff spilled on me." I ran to my room to get a t-shirt and shorts for her. "Here." I said as I handed her the clothes,"The bathroom is down the hall the first door on you left."
"Thanks."She came into the kitchen with her dirty clothes in hand. "Here let me put that in the washer for you." my mom said as she took her clothes. Gennie made her way back to the barstool where she had sat before. She was wearing my old white t-shirt that said 'If my music is too loud you're too old' it was a little baggy, but I don't think she minded, and also a pair of my black shorts.
Soon after I finished on cutting out the side of the box, Gennie started to paint it light blue. Then she put little clouds on it. I sat there and watched her paint each and individual cloud. (Wow! She is really beautiful even in my clothes. She's a really great artist too) I thought. I got up to go to the bathroom.
I looked down and I swear I remember the toilet paper being turned where the pieces that you pulled off were underneath it instead of on top.
"Hey!" I said once I got back. Gennie already finished painting the clouds and was letting them dry. "The paint is going to take a little time to dry. So I was thinking that like we can split it into thirds. Have the things that you and I did that are similar, then on one side you have what you did, and on the other I have what I did." she said.
"That sounds fine to me!" I said," Hey, Gennie, maybe while we're waiting we could like watch a movie?"
"Yeah sure. Sounds like fun."
