A Festival

"Alright, brats," their teacher said, slamming a stack of papers on the table. "The sports festival is coming up. Which means you guys will have to partake in it. Which means paperwork for me. So don't fuck anyone up!" She sent a glare towards them all.

"I'll leave you guys to fill in the paperwork and chose what you guys will do. Just don't die- or kill anyone."

She sat at her desk and put in her noise-canceling earphones.

"You heard the teacher," Kitigawa said. "What are we going to do about this? We have no way to get out of it."

"And what's worse," Naokao added, "is that we're in a tight spot."

Doi nodded his head. "If we lose, it'll tarnish our reputation."

"But if we win," Takata continued, "we'll gain unwanted attention."

"And if we place in the middle we'll be at risk for the Student Exchange with U.A." Murayama didn't like these odds. They had no way to win.

Horiuchi turned to Bakugo and Midoriya. "Any suggestions?"

Bakugo scowled. "I can give you this, we'll be getting unwanted attention anyway."

"The U.A. teachers were on our tails all summer, they'll take this opportunity to get us to U.A." Midoriya explained.

Kitigawa scoffed, "So either way U.A. will be on our asses."

Maeda smiled, "So..how about we give them what they want?"

"What?" Doi asked.

Maeda got out of his chair and headed for the whiteboard that was in the front of the class. "Like this," he said. "If U.A. wants us, and we have no way to get out of it, we'll place first in the school, all of us. We'll make them have no choice but to chose us."

"Oh, I see where you're going," Soda said. She cracked her fingers. "We'll infiltrate them. Evaluate them. Show them true Dual Class might."

"We'll make them fear us," Murayama laughed as he said the phrase. "This will be fun."

"And at the last minute, just when they think they have us, just as they offer up the permanent exchange forms," Maki muttered aloud, "we'll refuse."

"The Humiliation of U.A." Takaro proclaimed.

Horiuchi adjusted his glasses, "Think of all the future sponsors we'll have."

Naoko grabbed her pencil out of her hair and twirled it, "Think of all the contracts!"

Maeda tapped the board and drew a line down to the bottom. "First," he told them, "we have to be sure we can win."

Bakugo quirked a brow, Midoriya did the same. "Training sessions?" The two said in sync before shooting a glare to the other.

"Exactly," Maeda said. "We have to train, not just our quirks, but our bodies and reaction speeds. We need to be able to trash a plan in seconds and come up with one that works even better than before." He pointed towards Midoriya and Bakugo, "You two will help us."

Go, "You two are on a combat level equal, or even greater to, most pros. And you have the fastest reaction times in the class."

Midoriya used a shadow tendril to grab out his computer. "I'll do it."

Bakugo retired his ponytail. "As will I."

"But-" The two said sharply. "you must not complain about what I put you through. Remember," a black haze seemed to rise above their heads. "you asked for this."

"Go, have your quirk on standby," Naoko muttered, it seemed like a joke, but she was completely serious. "I fear we won't get out of this without injury."

------------

"Faster!" Bakugo barked.

"Higher!" Midoriya shouted.

"Takata! You are a hunter, stop trying to race them all! Go towards the forest! Places where you need to be quick and nimble, not large and stout!" Bakugo criticized.

Midoriya sent a whip towards Murayama. "You need stamina, Murayama! Keep making things, growing things, keep at it!"

Bakugo lunged forwards and sent out an explosion that was complete light. "You flinched Naoko, you can see! Takaro, you're losing control. Keep moving and using your quirk! Naoko, your quirk relies on scent, not sight."

"Hey, hey, hey, it's the Dual Course."

Midoriya and Bakugo jumped back to the pedestals and turned to see Suda and Kawaguchi, the representatives of the Support Class.

"To what do we owe the please," Bakugo greeted.

"We heard shouting and came to see what it was all about. Forgive us for trespassing." Suda bowed.

"You are forgiven," Midoriya said as he whipped one of Horiuchi's legs, "if there had been trouble your trespassing would have been beneficial."

"What are you doing?" Asked Kawaguchi.

"Training for the sports festival. We cannot let the Western dorms beat us, or more specifically, we cannot let spectators see them beat us. It would be bad for business if all we had was brains." Bakugo told them.

Midoriya threw Go and Soda into the air. "Cover your eyes!" Bakugo placed a hand on the dumbfounded representative's eyes. Midoriya pulled his glasses off. "Doi, Maeda, you need faster reaction times." He handed a pair to each of the Support Students.

They gratefully took them. "You are right, Bakugo, it is the sad truth of the world we live in. Brainpower just doesn't cut it in the public anymore."

"Tell me," Suda said, looking at the exhausted students. "Why are you trying so hard? Placing high should be enough, right?"

"Because," Midoriya said. "We can't afford to lose to them."

Bakugo sent another flash toward Naoko. "Losing isn't acceptable in the world. Not ours, you know this."

Suda placed a sad smile on their face. "I do."

"Good," Midoriya said. He jumped onto a tree and knocked Soda out of it. "I suggest you, too, begin preparations for the sports festival."

"Losing," Bakugo said to the retreating students. "is death."
