After the successful first human trial of the time machine, all three of us headed to our favorite hang out place for some beers. All our hard work, the sleepless nights, and skipping meals to concentrate on our project was finally paying off. Never in our dreams did we think we would achieve success in our first ever project. Mr. Collins couldn't be more proud of us; he is not just a great mentor but a great human being, without his support and constant pressure to put in our best we would not be where we are today!
The evening began with beers but then it was a big day so we decided to add some more alcohol into our bellies, we ordered shots of all kinds - tequila, vodka, even Jäger bombs. By the end of the day we were sloshed, never in my life did I drink so much. Beer and wine are usually our staple drinks but tonight we went over the top, not that we are complaining. It was a big night after all!
The next day we all woke up with a big hangover and excruciating headaches. It was 3 in the afternoon when we finally started waking up, thankfully it was the weekend so we didn't have to go to the university else we would have been in big trouble. Henry had been puking all night and wasn't feeling well so we had to take care of him since he was acting all baby-like. He wouldn't sleep and also didn't let any of us sleep. We literally had to sing lullabies to get him to sleep. Anyways, getting back to the day now, after breakfast or should I call it brunch we decided to get back to our project, we had to make a report to present to the university, the time machine was a success but we still had to show our achievement to the authorities and so this report was very crucial. Henry was the master of creating reports so we had to take care of him and get him to do what he does best. Mark and I went through the recording and took care of the editing. The report had to be perfect we did not want to leave any stone unturned and give any rejection point to the authorities.
After going through the report many times we saved the final copy. Our work was finally complete just in a few hours from now we would be presenting our final report to the university and based upon their approval we would be able to present our project to the government. It was a big day for us once again and we had our fingers crossed.
It was Monday – the big day, the day that would change our lives forever. Mr. Collins had messaged us last night wishing us luck and briefing us about the proceedings tomorrow. Quickly eating our breakfast and browsing through the news we made our way to the metro station. The news channels were once again highlighting the UFOs that were now being seen more frequently than ever, moreover, the virus threat engulfing the world was still without a cure and the WHO had warned people to be extra careful since this virus could prove to be the deadliest in the history of pandemics. There was panic everywhere, people stopped getting out of their homes in fear, they felt safer in their houses, even offices were promoting working from home. I don't know how we are going to deal with all of this. Too much was happening around the world. It was a year of breakthroughs but also threats. Not being too affected by the news and trying to concentrate on our presentation later today we decided to leave the panic behind and head to the university.
At the gate I was met by familiar eyes staring at me, "Oh hi Miss Peyton, how are you this morning? Lovely morning isn't it?" I tried my best to stay calm and composed but I know I was a nervous wreck inside, the things that this woman does to me, agh. "Hi Peter, I heard today is a big day for you and your team, I don't know the details but I heard the project you were working on turned out to be a success, congratulations!" she held out her hand for me to shake but I like an idiot kept staring into her eyes that always seem to captivate me, "oh, thank you so much", I started off nervously and shook her hand with my sweaty hand, shaking it for a minute or two just to prove what an idiot I am and what she does to me. "Great", she looked at our hands and then at me laughing lightly, getting a little embarrassed I quickly let go of her hand and start looking elsewhere just to save myself from more embarrassment. "Um well best of luck for today, she said and then smiled pushing back a few strands of her hair that had fallen on her forehead due to the chilly early morning breeze. I just stared at her in awe and soon heard a light chuckle, I got out of the trance that she puts me in every time she near me. "Well, see you around Peter, take care of yourself and best of luck once again". With that, she was gone. "Let's go lover boy we are getting late", I saw Mark and Henry looking at me with a smirk. "Oh, get those silly smiles off your faces and let's get going, we have a report to present." With that, we headed inside.
Once inside we were greeted by Mr. Collins who was eagerly waiting for us. "Hello boys, hope you're all set? As a part of the jury, we have a government official who will be judging the whole thing to decide whether the machine could be used by the government in any way. The three of you have done a wonderful job and achieved what no one could achieve in all these years and today is the day we get to make history, so don't let me down." With those encouraging words, he went and sat with the rest of the members in the hall. This is it; this is the moment that decides our fate. This is the moment we have been waiting for our whole life, I looked at Mark and Henry who were looking back at me and we gave each other an encouraging look and walked to the center of the room for our final presentation.
