Chapter 9:
“Lets go” I whisper to Quinn.
“Honey is she done? I’d hate to cut her feed short.” I glance down at Kinsley who is still nursing strong. “ No she’s still latched. Okay we’ll stay but I’m not talking to them and they are not seeing her. If they come over can you do all of the talking.” I ask shifting in my seat. Quinn nods as I hear footsteps approaching from behind.
“ Lou hi,” Quinn says standing. I glance up through my hair and then divert my attention to Kinsley under the cover. I can tell by the way Quinn keeps shifting his focus back to me that he is uncomfortable with Lou being here, especially when I’m feeding our daughter.
“ Hi Quinn, Hi Georgie” I smile up at her and say nothing. “ Georgie could we talk.” I glance up and notice the look she is giving me. I feel my temper rise and my face become flushed. Quinn jumps in, “ Lou we were just on our way out, once Georgie is finished feeding.”
“ Oh well can we meet up another time, Peter is going to be in town for a few more days and we would like to see Kinsley and talk with you guys.” Quinn goes to grab the stroller from behind his seat, he situates the buckles and then turns to Lou.
“ Maybe in a few days, let me talk with Georgie we should really get her home.” I bring her out from underneath the cover and pass her to Quinn. I clip my shirt and stand keeping a safe distance between Lou and I. Quinn puts her in the carseat and grabs her blanket. I buckle her waist buckle and chest clip tightening the straps. I can feel the eyes on my back from my family at the counter.
“ Okay, well i’ll be waiting for your call” Lou says politely smiling. I smile back and push the stroller towards the door. Katie comes up to me as I wait for Quinn to open the door.
“Georgie can I see her?” I glance over at Peter and nod at Katie. “ Okay katie, but make it quick and don’t touch she’s still so little.” Quinn picks Katie up so she can get a better look from underneath the blanket.
“Georgie she has your nose.” Katie says pointing at her own. I smile “ Yes Katie she does.” I give her a hug, glance around at my family staring at me and walk our daughter out of the diner.
-----
We get Kinsley loaded in the truck and head toward fairfield ready to get out of town.
“ That went interestingly.” Quinn said turning onto the fairfield grounds.
“Yeah, to be honest I miss my family but I don’t think I’m ready to talk to my mom or dad. They hurt me so much throughout Kinsley's pregnancy, how can we get back from that?” I ask looking over at Quinn. He pulls up in front of home and jumps out. He grabs Kinsley’s carseat and we walk toward the door.
“Babe it’s going to take time to gain that trust back, here let me get her out and we can talk in the living room.” He unbuckles Kinsley and snuggles her against his chest, I settle on the couch tucked in the crook of Quinns arm.
“So what do you want to do about this?” Quinn asks looking down at me.
“ I don’t know, i understand that they want to talk with us but I don’t want them to think just because we show up and are open to talk they get immediate access to our daughter.”
“ I get that and I agree but who can watch Kinsley when we meet. There isn’t really anyone who we trust and she’s so young.” I softly rub Kinsley’s back while thinking over how we can handle this.
“ I don’t want to leave her yet she’s so young and still relies on me for everything, I don’t want to introduce a bottle just to meet with my parents.” Quin gets that look on his face when he is thinking about something intently, after a few minutes of silence an idea occurs.
“ Why don’t we call your parents and have them come over here. That way I can be here with you but we can keep Kinsley in the bedroom, can we ask Lisa to come and sit with her in the room while we talk?” I think about it, I guess that could work, that way someone is with Kinsley at all times but I am still available if she needs me.
“ I guess that could work, I’ll text Lisa after we talk to Lou and Peter about coming over.” I grab my phone and send a group message to both of my parents saying,
Georgie: Quinn and I talked it over and feel comfortable if you were to come to us to have this talk. That way we don’t have to leave our daughter with anyone.
A few minutes later my phone dings while I’m changing Kinsley’s diaper. “ Hun can you check my phone she just had an accident all over me” I say wiping off my shirt. Quinn grabs my phone from the kitchen bar,
“ Your mom and dad said that is fine just let them know when. Your dad leaves on monday for vancouver.” Quinn says from the kitchen.
“ How about tomorrow morning around 11, Kinsley is usually down for a nap around then.” I snap Kinsley’s onesie back up and walk over to Quinn. He texts them back the time and locks the phone.
“Okay, now that we are done with that how would my girls like a nice relaxing night at home with daddy” Quinn smiles and takes Kinsley from me. I lunge in for a hug “We would love that, I’ll pop the popcorn you grab the movie.”
