Kirstie has been deaf in one ear since birth. Of course that didn't stop her. She still studied music all through high school and said yes to Scott when he asked if she wanted to do the Sing Off.
It just comes with extra challenges. She couldn't tune by ear; she had to tune to another instrument. She couldn't learn a song by ear. That's why she learnt to read music at a young age.
When she met people, it got awkward however.
For example, when Matt joined the band, he was confused why Kirstie was always the first to get the sheet music. And why Scott and Kirstie had extra practices. He honestly thought that Scirstie was real. To his disappointment however, he was just helping with the new songs.
But that's the life of being deaf.
