Later in the day, Stefan and I found ourselves in the parlour, drowning our sorrows over Zack with drinks and cigarettes. Zack's absence weighed heavily on both of us, and I quietly resolved that I needed a new guardian. While Jenna was an option, I decided Damon might be more suitable, although I'd have to approach him about it later.

As Elena's car pulled up outside, I could see how upset Stefan was becoming. I hugged him and promised to meet him in his room later. Elena began demanding things from Stefan, which frustrated me, so I retreated to my room and called Jeremy. He picked up immediately, venting about Elena, which I found amusing. We made plans for lunch since I hadn't seen him in a while.

Stefan didn't return home that night, so the next morning, I left to have breakfast at the Grill with Jeremy. We met at our usual booth and enjoyed our customary breakfast. Over our meal, we caught up on everything happening in our lives, and Jeremy expressed his wish for us to spend more time together. I promised him a movie night soon, complete with junk food and lots of ice cream.

We lingered at the Grill, playing pool until lunchtime, which I treated Jeremy to. After lunch, I headed back to the boarding house.

Upon arriving, I found Vikki Donovan severely injured and Damon threatening Stefan on the phone. After Damon hung up, I motioned for him to join me on the couch, where we both poured ourselves glasses of bourbon. I then made a bold request of Damon—to become my guardian, now that Zack was gone and I didn't want to be under Jenna's care. Initially shocked, Damon hugged me and agreed, which lifted a weight off my shoulders.

Seeing Vikki stirring, I excused myself and headed to the Lockwood mansion, where I met with Mayor Lockwood in his office. I shared my stellar academic achievements, which pleased him greatly, as he considered me like a daughter. Later, Sheriff Fell joined us, and we discussed the compass, relieved that it didn't point towards me.

Later that day, I found myself in the woods, dressed in a cute hiking outfit, following the compass to track down the missing watch. During my search, Sheriff Fell attempted to kill Stefan, but I intervened and took the bullets intended for him. Damon swiftly dealt with Fell, and both boys rushed to help me remove the bullets. Amidst the chaos, I witnessed Vikki being turned into a vampire, which terrified me to the point of screaming uncontrollably.

Stefan immediately decided to take me home, speeding us back to his place. Once there, Stefan changed me into pyjamas and sat me on his lap, trying to calm me down as I struggled with a panic attack. He gently prompted me to explain why I had reacted so strongly, and I recounted how I had foreseen these events in a dream. Stefan was shocked but held me close, soothing me until I eventually drifted off to sleep.

Before slipping away into unconsciousness, I felt someone stroke my hair gently, too exhausted to question who it was, finding solace in the comforting gesture.
