Chapter 1: How Venus met her Knight in Shining Dark Armor

{Flashback dream}

In the small and cramped town of Shyne, there was a certain orphanage that was at the edge of town. And living in that orphanage, was a peculiar-looking bug girl who was sitting on a bench all alone at the playground that touched the outskirts of the desert outside of the town. She would've gone to play with some of the other bug children, but since she was different looking from the rest of them, she was shunned and at other times, bullied by them. Now, you're probably wondering why she's getting this treatment from bugs that look and act different from each other. So why treat her any different from the rest of them? Because of two reasons. One, her looks can rival that of any beautiful form of light. And two, her origins or where she came from BEFORE she lived at the orphanage.

You see, she, unlike most bugs, has four features that make her different but beautiful from the rest. 1. White lights that look like pupils. 2. A disappearing and reappearing mouth. 3. A peculiar tongue to go with the mouth. And 4. Sharp looking teeth that look fit to be suited for a shark-like creature. And it's thanks to her features that she was mostly avoided and picked on by the children. Heck, even some of the adults that worked at the orphanage kept somewhat of a distance from her. And as for her origins, the children say that she was the spawn of the Devil and that not even he would go near her, little alone, raise and care for the child. But only the adults knew where she truly came from. 

It was sometime ago after the fall of Hallow Nest and the sealment of the Radiance and her curse, that explorers found a hidden temple on the other side of the vast Black Desert outside of Shyne. They dug for months before they finally broke through. Inside was a vast tomb that contained a small larva of light that had a hint of a dark aura. They were astonished that such a child could exist and could survive in this tomb for who knows how long.

The leader of the expedition who found the child, was an elderly looking bug gentleman that was on the verge of retirement. He decided to take her in under his care and raise her like his own child. His name was Conan. And he saw this as God's way of giving him a family that he never had a chance to have.

But this my dear readers is when the story takes a sad turn. After a few years of raising her, Conan had developed a rare form of disease that left even the best doctors scratching their heads. On his deathbed, his last words to the child were, "Venus, my dear girl, your light shines so bright, it makes this old bug's last moments in life that much worth living for. Before I pass on, heed and remember these last words and directions. The light can only do so much before her task seems to be her undoing. It is then that she seeks the aid of the darkness within the Void to aid her in her time of need. It is then that her Knight of darkness shall appear not on a steed but with a nail that combined with light, darkness, and love shall they prevail. Venus, you are that light. Go, go and find your Knight of darkness. Go and fulfill the destiny that was meant to be yours and his to achieve. Go find your love. Go find your happiness. I wish you all of my love and support from here in my last moments in the living, and in my soon to be afterlife. I love you my dear little firefly, remember that. And that I'm always with you." 

He gripped her hand tight as he took his final breath and then, he was gone. Venus at the time didn't fully understand and comprehend what he said. But at that very moment, she knew that she wouldn't let his last words be in vain. And it was after a few days later, after mourning over the loss of her adoptive grandfather, that she was put in the orphanage in Conan's childhood hometown. In his will, when she was to come of age, she would inherit his money, belongings, and his birthright inheritance over his vast family estate.

You see, Conan came from a wealthy family of beetles that aided and created many merchant businesses around not only in the town of Shyne, but throughout several other kingdoms. And since Conan was the only heir left to the family fortune and he had no children by biological means, Venus was left as the only heiress. Now, you're probably wondering, "If she has so much money, why is she at an orphanage?" That my dear readers, is because the lawyers and attorneys that handled Conan's case said that she was just too young to handle the responsibility. So until she comes of age and can live on her own, she would have to live the majority of her life at the orphanage or if someone were to adopt her.
