Zach sat beside me as we have the last class together with Leilani and Eben. Zach hands me the paper from the teacher.
"what are you doing after school?" he asks, tapping his pencil on the table.
"nothing that i know of. why?" i replied.
"i want to pull a prank on the new couple. if you don't mind helping."
"not at all. what were you thinking?" i kick my feet under the table.
"okay so you know how they are always kissing and being a couple. i'm thinking of-" Zach paused as the bell rang.
we walk side by side as Zach was telling me the plan. i nodded to Zach, walking to Jonah and Elizabeth, Lyric and Chloe were talking by their locker, Leilani was telling Madison a joke by the way she laughed.
i tapped Elizabeth shoulder making her pull away from her boyfriend lips.
"yes Mela?" she says smiling.
"do you hear about the- wait maybe that was- no no it was definitely-"
Zach ran up to them pouring a whole bucket of cold water at them. i moved away, laughing. Zach high-fived my hand, i blush letting go. Elizabeth glares at Zach, Jonah moves Elizabeth hair back getting mad at his friend.
"what the heck man?!" Jonah voice starts to rise.
"stop kissing is all." Zach said, dropping the bucket, Jonah ran after him tripping a couple of times.
Elizabeth walks away from me slowly to the bathroom.
"really Mela? water? silly string would have been better.." Madison said following Elizabeth.
Leilani and Lyric followed, Chloe put her hand in my shoulder. i wipe my nose looking down.
"i know you and Zach are the prank king and queen but that was really mean. did you feel how cold the water was? i could, it hit my back. i'll talk to you later." she says going to the bathroom.
Zach ran back over chuckling as his face turned sad. "what's wrong?" he wipes my tears.
"it was cold water? you said it was room temperature. i-i wouldn't have agreed if it was cold."
"i'm sorry. it was cold? i put it on and i guess i turned the wrong side. i didn't mean to. it was a good prank still right?" Zach pulls me into his chest, giving me a big bear hug.
"it was a good prank if it went right. i have to go check on my friend." i said, letting go of Zach, running to the bathroom.
"i'm so sorry Elizabeth. i didn't know and Zach didn't. we were trying to be funny and it backfired on us. can you forgive me?"
Elizabeth looked at our friends, taking my hand sighing. "not yet. ask me in a few days okay?"
"o-okay." i replied tearing up.
"don't cry. i'm not mad... just cold."
"excuse me." i closed a door on the bathroom stalls crying.
it's like i was in trouble, in way i am but still. i feel so bad. just give Elizabeth time. i kept saying to myself.
