I stare at my mother, mouth agape.
"What?" AJ is the one to break the silence.

"I'm engaged, hon-"
"What the fuck Mom?!"
I blink. Mom reels back.
AJ has never been this hostile to our mother.
Angry, yes but openly unfriendly? No.

"AJ, baby...."
"Don't 'AJ, baby me', you..." AJ was simmering with rage.
She stomped away and Mom stared at me helplessly.
"Peyton, honey, can you help me with her?"
I'm still recovering from the shock.
"Mom, I'm not..." I shake my head as I open the door for her
"I'm not sure anything can"

AJ had been absolutely ripped apart by my dads death.
He'd left her his entire company.
That's when my sister made a decision.
She was going to go to college, get a degree and make my dads business have a thriving comeback.

And the only thing that stopped her was this.

"AJ, you can't just give up"
"I am" My sister stares at the ceiling
"Listen" I plonk my butt down on her bed "You are not giving up. Dad would not want you to give up. I just kicked our mother out of the house for you, ya hear?"
"Yeah but" AJ sighs "What if Mom gives half of the company profit she got from Dads will to that dude?"
"Ben? He looks like he wouldn't know the meaning of the word 'profit'"

Ok that was a lie, Ben had that hot and smart  firefighter vibe that older women love so much. Don't ask why.

"So what's our next plan then? Besides watching our mother fuck us over"
"Let her live her life, we're over 20 now, what she does doesn't affect us"
"It does. She's replacing him" AJ's voice was pain stricken
"No one can replace him. You know that" I say softly.
"Well, then"AJ got on her elbows to stare at the pile of clothes near her bed.
"Guess we should get ready for Aruba"

*Aruba , At The Hotel, A week later*

"Damn" AJ took a slow twirl to admire the resort "This is..."
"Amazing, right?" Katlyn comes up behind us "But there's a LITTLE problem, Peyt"
"Shoot"

"You kinda have to share a room with Christopher"
