"Michael! What have you done?!"
As soon as the words were spoken, I felt my heart drop. I was in great pain and I didn't know why. Katie gave me a worried look and disappeared. The world around me faded to black and I faded along with it.
I tried shouting for Katie in hopes that she would tell me to open my eyes and I'd be back in my memory, but sadly, that wasn't the case.
I destroyed her. She warned me and I let her down. I let Katie down. I let Allison down. I let Reese down. I let Jade down. I let everyone down.
I was all alone with my dangerous thoughts.
Why did Michael kill me? Why didn't I just call my parents instead of getting in that car with him? How could I have been so stupid? I ruined everyone's life by dying... I hate myself for being so dumb, I thought to myself.
Suddenly, the sound of a powerful voice echoed into the nothingness.
"You've returned." It said.
When he spoke, I was visible again and the world brightened into a white room.
To my surprise, the voice belonged to the old man with the long fluffy beard I had met when I first arrived at Lost-the one who wouldn't reveal his identity.
He was much larger in size this time, maybe sixty feet tall, seated upon an even larger throne encrusted in pure gold.
I immediately took in my surroundings. It was a ginormous room filled with white furniture. There wasn't a trace of color. Nothing looked expensive looking. The space resembled a room you'd find in the average person's home.
"Wh-who are you?" I asked him.
He smiled at me. "Who do you think I am?"
"I don't have a clue." I said honestly.
"It's quite alright, Emily." He chuckled lightly. "I didn't expect you to."
"So who are you then?" I was growing impatient.
"He's the Maker." A familiar voice said behind me
The Maker? I thought to myself.
I slowly turned around to find Katie standing behind me.
"Katie? I thought I accidently destroyed you somehow." My voice was so shaky, even I noticed.
Katie shook her head and smiled. "You didn't destroy me, Emily. You've passed the memory test."
"I passed the what test?" I was so confused.
The entire process had been confusing and everyone speaking vaguely just made me even more frustrated.
When I turned back around, the Maker had shrunk down to my human size.
"When you died, I took most of your memory away so that you can relearn it from a different perspective. Katie then took you into your memory world where she revealed some of your deepest thoughts, people that had an impact on your life, and she showed you things to answer the questions you didn't even know you had. She had to make you understand your importance in the world." The Maker explained.
"Why Katie?" I asked him.
"She's the Revealer." He told me.
Certain things slowly started to make sense. "You're the Maker... so are you God?"
The Maker shrugged his shoulders. "Some might say I am, but I'm open to all interpretations on who I might be. Even if someone didn't believe in a superior being, I may choose to appear to them as a friend. I'm not cruel or jealous. I love all my creation and I want the best for them."
I tried hard to understand him, but there were still some things that I didn't explain.
"It's a lot to take in I know. This is why I don't reveal everything to the people on earth. It's too much to bear." He told me.
"I just have two questions." I promised. "What happened to Michael and why did I leave before the memory finished?"
"Michael is in a coma. His life is treading on thin ice. He abused drugs for much too long and it finally caught up to him. We can't tell you if he made it or not just yet." The Maker explained.
I hated Michael, but I couldn't stop the tears that fell down my cheeks. I quickly wiped them away, not wanting to shed a tear for him, but I just couldn't stop the pain and sympathy I felt for him.
"Why not?" I asked.
"The answer may impact your decision."
"What decision?" I felt like a child that repeatedly questioned everything and the world around them.
The Maker and Katie exchanged looks before looking at me.
"That's entirely up to you." Katie told me.
I raised an eyebrow at her. "What do you mean?"
"I see potential in you, Emily. I want to give you an additional choice that I don't offer just anyone." The Maker told me.
"Wait, are you suggesting-"
The Maker cut Katie off with a nod and said, "I am."
"Your first choice is to move on to Afterlife into the world of the deceased. Your second choice is to let this all be a bad dream and you'll return to earth with no memory of being here or whatever you saw. Your third choice, a choice I don't offer just anyone, is to stay here in Lost and become the Revealer."
"B-but that's Katie's job. What'll happen to Katie?" I questioned him.
Katie gave me a weak smile. "I'm a lot older than you think, Emily. I've been the Revealer for quite a long time."
"How old are you?"
"I am three hundred and twenty -three years old." She said with a smile.
I blinked at her in shock. "But you look so young!"
"I died when I was sixteen and since you don't age in Lost..." She laughed. "Anyway, I'm old and as much as I love serving the Maker by revealing memories to humans like you, I could really use some rest in the Afterlife, but don't let me influence your decision."
"So what do you choose, Emily?"
I took a deep breath.
Surprisingly, it didn't take long to come up with an answer.
I knew what I had to do.
