Fall is always my favorite season. The weather is consistently temperate, I can wear my long pants without getting weird looks, and best of all: the fair comes to town!

It sure would've been a lot better in past years if I had someone to go with, but being by myself has never inhibited my good time. However, none of that matters this year, because my boyfriend is here visiting me for a while before we both get too busy as the holiday season starts.

The fair is always one of the things I look forward to the most every year, and I'm so excited that I get to share it with Wilbur this time. It's going to be perfect; rides, food stalls, games, and the lovely fall weather and beautiful sunshine that always comes around this time of year.

I'm a little upset as I frown out the windshield of my car at the overcast sky hanging heavily above us as we park the car in a field a few hundred yards away from the fair entrance. Wilbur and I had already made plans to go on this date days ago, and couldn't change it despite the clouds covering the autumn sky almost all afternoon and evening.

"I'm glad you had those rain ponchos (Y/N)," Wilbur says to me as we make our way to the entrance. "Smart idea to bring them, but I hope we won't have to use them," he chuckles a little and takes hold of my hand. I can tell he's trying to lighten the mood as I probably have a bit of a grumpy expression on now due to the gray sky and brisk wind.

"I just hope we can do everything we want before it starts to rain," I grumble. Wilbur brings our joined hands to his lips and speaks against the back of my hand, "It'll be okay (Y/N), let's just focus on having fun."

"Fine." I can't help but smile at him. Wilbur always manages to make me feel better with those kinds of incredibly sweet gestures. I need to tell him more how much I appreciate them. He smiles back at me before we step up to the booth to get our tickets. I won't let the stupid weather ruin our date.

That, however, seems like it will become increasingly harder as the evening goes on. The wind was only getting worse, but at least the clouds hadn't darkened any more. I predicted the rides wouldn't be open for long after we first got to the place, so as soon as Wilbur and I get through the entrance, I make a beeline straight to the ferris wheel. I'll be damned if we came all this way and didn't get to do the most romantic thing at any fair or amusement park ever.

We don't have much trouble getting on, as there's hardly any line due to the fairgrounds emptying out as the weather worsens. If anything I just want to have this ride and a few nice pictures of me and my boyfriend.

When we make it to our turn at the top of the ride, Wilbur takes his phone out and turns to me to take a picture, leaning back to get a good shot. It is still a nice view from here. Even though the sun hasn't set yet, it's dark enough from the cloud cover for the lights scattered across the grounds and lining the tops of the rides to be turned on and blinking invitingly. That makes it a little easier to ignore the stormy evening. And my boyfriend wanting to take a photo of me would be endearing if I couldn't see the shit-eating grin on his face, knowing how horrible I am at having pictures taken of me if I'm not the one doing it. But I just ignore it and try to smile as genuinely as I can for the camera.

Wilbur glances at me over the top of his phone, raising an eyebrow as he says, "C'mon (Y/N), real smile." I just glare at him, forgetting trying to look nice knowing that he's trying to annoy me. His response is to give me puppy eyes. "For me?" He makes an obviously fake pouty face and I nod and roll my eyes, fixing my hair so it's not blowing in my face. At least I'm trying to. It's not really working.

I huff as my hair almost completely covers my face and give Wilbur the biggest, most horrible grimace I can make. He laughs and I can hear the camera shutter clicking a few times before he brushes the mess of hair out of my face, still smiling. "Maybe we should just settle for a selfie today," he suggests, seemingly done teasing me for now.
