Rose very slowly stood up from the floor of the 'Ghost Room', hand running up the wall as if she couldn't let go, and catching her breath to help stop the tears dripping down her face. It was as if she stayed there she would be with her family, even when they were lost to another world. She steeled herself and turned around walking out of the room, refusing to let the hopelessness of the situation get to her. She realized, as she finally left the 'Ghost Room' back towards the TARDIS, that even if she knew the doctor changed the emergency program to help her find him instead of sending her away, that he was trapped in another world unable to ever get home, and paused at the door. She didn't know how to fly or even if the TARDIS worked beyond the programs without the Doctor. What if she did something wrong and hurt the TARDIS or messed up the timeline? He hadn't even told her how to start the emergency program.
In the midst of her small panic attack the TARDIS door opened on her own. Rose soon noticed and immediately calmed down. She would be fine, the TARDIS was fine, she would help her see the Doctor again and with work and determination Rose would get the Doctor back for good. As soon as she stepped inside the TARDIS Rose noticed something new; a small pink and yellow light glimmering from a big button on the console. Rose knew that it was probably always there but she had never noticed it glowing before so she assumed that the glow was the TARDIS's way of letting her know what to do. Rose figured pressing the button would help her find the Doctor and fly the TARDIS own. As it turned out she was right. As soon as she pressed the button a holographic display appeared.
Rose was half expecting her old northern and leather doctor would appear like last time and tell her to stay but it was her new new Doctor that spoke the message. "Rose. I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry. If this is playing it means I am dead and you have no where else to go, whether that means Jackie is also gone or you are unable to go back to Earth, I must have failed you. I know your going to insist this is not my fault but it doesn't matter in the end. You are amazing Rose Tyler and if I can't give you anything else let me give you this. The last gift I can give both you and the TARDIS is each other. Go, explore the universe. The TARDIS will take care of you and you've got to take care of her. The TARDIS has specific instructions on what to do once your ready to go and she's agreed to help you learn. Right now, Rose Tyler, twist the knob to the right of the blue lever left, and then push the black lever next to it up. Remember that will send the TARDIS into the Vortex. I know you and I know you'll want to look for me and I am proud of you for it but you can't. Let me go." The hologram's eyes had begun the recording with a sad face that now spoke pride and melancholy. His voice cracked up at the end a bit and Rose assumed this Doctor must have been recorded just after regeneration."Doctor" The Rose from the recording spoke from the background. "ha, time to go. Listen to me, Rose. Explore. Adventure. And have a Fantastic life." His image smiled at her before it disappeared. Rose felt tears run down her cheeks.
Now it's important to know that up until this point Rose had been in a very heavy shock. She was tired and couldn't think and then when the hologram Doctor showed on screen she broke. For hours she sat there in the console room clinging to the coral crying and the TARDIS did her best to comfort Rose in their mourning until Rose couldn't do anymore and fell asleep.
The next day she woke in her bedroom and saw a blue leather jacket at the end of the bed and became determined to follow through on the doctors final wish. The TARDIS had moved her there in her sleep and she remembered that blue was the color of mourning on Gallifrey. She slipped the jacket over her shoulders and let the emotions that came with it wash over her. Rose left for the console and started her up and finally spoke for the first time since the Battle.
"C'mon old girl. Let's be fantastic"
