Junko was held captive in Minato's house for 40 days. There, she was subjected to unimaginable torture. This is what happened: (Graphic details follow):
- Raped over 400 times. Over 100 men participated in the rape and once by 12 different men in one day. - Objects inserted into her vagina and anus, including a lit light bulb, fireworks, an iron rod, bottles, and a lit match - Beaten daily - Beaten with bamboo sticks, an iron rod, and swinging sticks - Dumbells dropped onto her stomach at the height of one meter - Legs doused in lighter fuel and set on fire - Fireworks inserted into her ears, mouth, nose, and set off. - Forced to masturbate and strip in front of men - Fed cockroaches and forced to drink her own urine - Starved and given little to no food - Hands tied to the ceiling and used as a "punching bag" - Hands smashed with weights and fingernails cracked. One of her nails was also torn off - Her left nipple was crushed with pliers - Sewing needles were stabbed into her chest - Her brain size shrunk and her hair had fell out. She'd broken several bones and her injuries got infected. None of her teeth were properly attached to the gums and her face had swollen and became unrecognizable - Forced to dance and sing while being beaten. During this, Junko would tell herself "Ganbare (頑張れ)", which means "Do your best.", in an attempt to encourage herself to pull through. - Begged her captors to "kill her" - Left outside on the balcony during winter with hardly any clothes. - Hot wax poured onto her face and eyelids - Unable to move due to her injuries. Once took an hour for her to drag herself to the bathroom - Blood dried in her nose and she was only able to breathe through her nose. - Head dunked in water anytime she passed out - Was made fun of and mentally abused by her captors - A girl was once invited to the house. She made fun of Junko and drew on her face with a marker, saying it was "makeup."
Junko had tried to escape multiple times. She'd initially tried to call her parents multiple times, but eventually grew too weak to do so. In December, she tried to call the police, but was caught and severely punished. Another time in December, the police were dispatched to the house after receiving a call that there was a girl being held captive. Minato's mother had claimed there was no girl and offered them to look in the house. The police left, believing this to be enough evidence, and did not search the house. Early in her captivity, Minato's father had sent Junko home, thinking she was a girlfriend of one of the boys. She was discovered as soon as she left the house and was forced back. Minato's parents were fully aware of Junko's captivity, but later on did nothing about it out of fear of their son.
The motive for Junko's kidnapping is unknown, though it's believed to be out of fear that she'd tell the police and because the boys thought they could use her for prostitution means. The reason for the torture is because the boys thought it was "interesting to see how she reacted." and so she wouldn't escape. Junko did not know any of her captors and she was called "captive woman" by the ones who participated. Miyano had only learned her address and name from her belongings.
