The boys discovered Junko's body after Minato's brother called and said she appeared to be dead. Fearful of getting caught, the boys wrapped her body in a blanket.
On January 5th, the boys took the body to Miyano's house. They hid it in an oil drum and used a cement truck to fill it with cement. They hid the drum in a wasteland in Koto, Japan.

Junko's body was found in March 29, 1989. She was identified by fingerprints. Her body was unrecognizable, sewing needles were found inserted into her chest, and two bottles were found inside her. The autopsy report also revealed she was pregnant.
The boys were arrested for the crime, though the sentences were very light. Miyano was sentenced to 20 years, Minato was sentenced to 5-9 years, Ogura 8 years in a juvenile prison, and Watanabe 5-7 years. They are all free today and have committed several crimes since then.
