Davey's POV
"I'd say we launched our strike in a most auspicious manner," I chirp, toasting my cup of water in the air looking over the worn-out boys.
The newsies look at each other, trying to figure out what I had said. Mentally noting that Les and I are probably the most socially educated among them. I scan the room and spot the absence of Eliza. She was with us the entire time. Where could she had possibly gone? I wanted to alert
Jack, who seemed unaware of his twin's disappearance.
"I don't know about that, but we sure scared the bejeebers outta Weasel!"
"Did you see Delancey's?"
"They didn't know which way was up."
"So, what's next?" Jack looks over to me. Now you have to spread the word. Let the rest of the city's Newsies know about the strike.
"You heard the man. Let's split up and spread the word."
My mind wandered about how confidently I had kissed Eliza's cheek during the first rally. I had a small fear thinking she would've bitten my face off, but I took her by surprise. The beating of my heart started to increase as I dreamed about laying my lips on her while smiling that I had found myself the perfect woman. She was my north star and motivation to help her fantastic group of friends seize the day.
"And who wants Brooklyn?" Jack asked loudly, interrupting my thoughts about his sister.
The newsies cringe and look away. I knew Brooklyn was the most extensive and more famous city in New York, but newsies were a little intimidating.
"C'mon. Brooklyn. Spot Conlon's turf. Finch, you tellin' me you're scared of Brooklyn?" Jack looks around like he was looking for someone.
"I ain't scared of no turf. But that Spot Conlon got me a little jittery...Send Eliza. I'm sure he'd be happy to see her!"
The room filled with little "Oohs" and small laughs as I sit there confused while Jack had a severe face, giving Finch a death glare. I sat up straight, hearing Eliza's name along with a male and automatically thought, "Did they date?"
"Why, Eliza?"
Jack pinched the top of his nose while the boys smirk and share a glance at one another. I'm over here thinking, what the hell am I missing? Is it a joke or what? Finch stood and walked over to me, dusting my shoulders.
"Eliza and Spot were a thing. We were all pals at one point till-"
"Enough. They are history," Jack said coldly.
"Ya know what they say...history repeats itself!"
Jack pulled Finch away from me while I'm still processing that Spot Colon is feared and had relations with the girl I'm falling for.
"So, nobody wants Brooklyn?"
Everyone turned away while Jack made a slight glance in my direction. They feared a man who was around their age, and honestly, whatever happened between them, I wanted to be better than him.
"Fine. Davey and I will take Brooklyn." Jack says proudly while I choke on my water.
"Me? I have to..." I struggle to get words out until I hear the voice I've been waiting to hear.
"Why's everyone so scared of Brooklyn?"
Eliza's POV
I pull the redhead, Katherine, behind me as we both barge into their hang out place after a long day. Jack's eyes lit up, seeing the pretty girl again while I let her out of my grip.
