Love and the Radio

It happed on a nice quiet Sunday night in the common room of class 1A at the Height's Alliance dorms.

Midoriya sat with his textbook on his lap and his notebook balanced on one leg as he scribbled in it so fast that Shota swore his pencil was smoking.

Yayaorozu, Mineta, Kaminari, and Ashido all sat on the floor around the coffee table with Math books open. Yayaorozu was lecturing on quadratic equations but none of her classmates/pupils was listening.

Mineta keeped peaking over the top of his book at his tutor's chest then ducking behind it again to hide the look of absolute bliss on his face. He wasn't fooling anyone about his intentions.

Kaminari and Ashido were sneaking looks at Todoroki, Bakogou, and Kirishima who were all working on a group project. Bakogou snapped at Todoroki every time he tried to suggest something, Todoroki would repeat his suggestion, Bakogou would try to get in his face and Kirishima would then get in between the blond and the teen with the multi-colored hair. Five minutes later the cycle would start all over again.

Uraraka sat next to Iida with a cup of green tea as he lectured her, Satou, and Kouda energetically on classical Japanese.

Oijirou, Aoyama, Shoji and Hagakurae sat by a small radio which was playing Mic's regular Sunday night progress. By the notebooks and pencils the two had, Mic had probably offered the students extra credit if they listened to his show again.

Shota sighed at the irrationality of that.

One more quick scan to make sure his students weren't about to blow something out or set it on fire (Poor Kirishima, he had to make sure to give that kid extra credit for all the hard work he was doing to keep his group from blowing up literally) and Shota relaxed.

He had just finished his patrol and was looking forward to curling up in his sleeping bag. As he turned to leave for his room, however, he heard words from the radio that chilled him to the bone.

"Hey there listeners! As you know, tonight is Cape Night. That's right, listeners, it is time to meet our special guest for the week. She fights crime while putting a smile on everyone's face. Prepare to laugh out loud as we welcome, MS. JOKE!"

Slowly, Shota turned around and looked at the radio. The students were continuing on as they had, oblivious, but Shota knew what was coming: disaster.

He raced over to the radio and grabbed it, pushing the power button as hard as he could.

"Aizawa-Sensei," Hagakurae complained. "We were listening to that. Mic promised us..."

"Extra credit? You need that more in hero class. I will give you an extra two points on the next quiz on Hero History to make up for it."

Everyone was looking at him now, but Shota didn't care. He tucked the radio off and headed to his room, telling the Oijiro that he would return the radio later.

There. Crisis averted.

For a moment, the students of Class 1A looked at each other, absolutely stupefied.

"Aizawa-Sensei looked...panicked," Mina said.

"He offered them extra credit. Last time I asked, he told me that he didn't do extra-credit," Midoriya noted.

"He must be hiding something," Todoroki said.

All eyes turned to him. His phone was out and he was typing something on it.

"Get real Icey-Hot. Scarf Sensei doesn't have any secrets," Bakogou scoffed.

"Then it won't matter if we listen to this," Todoroki said.

He tapped his screen and the live broadcast of Mic's show began to play.

"So that's when I said....man, you are so smoking hot. Smog was so tickled he laughed all the way to the police station."

"That certainly sounds like a humerous harrowing tale. It does raise the question, however. Is there anyone special in your life?"

"Hoping to get a date with me, Mic?"

Mic chuckled.

"Maybe."

"Too bad for you, though. I already have someone. He doesn't smile often, but I treasure every one I see and only wish I could make him do it more often. Some say he is a little grumpy, but I think he is just a tsundere. You know?"

"Sounds like quite a guy. Do you have any message for him, if he is listening?"

"As a matter of fact....Eraserhead, I have loved you since the day I first saw you, berating a kid for using his teleportation quirk to chuck cans at passers-by. You have always been the perfect straight man for my jokes. The only man I know who will only laugh if he truly finds me funny, not because of my quirk. I guess what I am trying to say is, will you marry me, Shota Aizawa?"

Uraraka spewed green tea all over her shirt.

Every student sat there, gaping in astonishment, except for Todoroki who grinned a satisfied smile and tapped his phone to record the show for later before turning off the broadcast.

Surprisingly, the first person to regain their voice, was Mineta.

"Aizawa-Sensei...has a girlfriend," he said in disbelief.

"And she just proposed to him," Mina Ashido squealed.

Silence reigned for a moment as everyone in Class 1A slowly digested that fact.

"Regardless of that fact, everyone. There is still class to prepare for tomorrow. Let's get back to work," Iida proclaimed.

After a moment, everyone nodded and slowly began to pick up what they were doing before they heard the broadcast.

No one was truly able to concentrate after that bombshell, though

Across the room, Todoroki and Hagakurae met each others ideas. Silently, they made pact to find out what Aizawa-Sensei's reaction to the proposal was.

One way or another.

Across the city, a journalist quickly texted her editor an idea for a new article. A few moments later she got a reply: Two heroes in love? What a nice warm, fuzzy topic. Just the sort of thing we need in these dark times. Hurry up with it and you might just make the morning edition on time.

Meanwhile, Shota had curled up in his sleeping bag on his futon and was blissfully dreaming about cat cafes.

He thought that he had dodged catastrophe.

But he forgot one crucial fact: Teenagers are curiousity incarnate and forbidding them to listen to something just ensures that they will.

Years later, Shota would still wonder how he could have been so blind.
