The awkward silence appeared to slowly fade as the two walked. Dan was still kicking himself, yet, Phil seemed not as bothered. Either that, or he was ignoring it. They had both retrieved their meals, and were on their way home when Phil broke the silence that had thankfully relieved itself.

"So, 12 months here, yeah?" Phil asked quietly.

"Yeah. I'm a bit scared. That's a long time. I only learnt last night that Luke can only keep me for 4 months, then I have to find another home. I think so far I'm living with Tom Purcell for 3 months." Dan shrugged.

"What?! Why can't Luke keep you for the whole 12 months?" Phil asked, slightly shocked.

"Apparently, they only signed up for 4 months. They all apologised heaps when we all found out." Dan answered, shrugging again.

"That's a shame. But Tom Purcell, wow, how'd that offer come up?" Phil chuckled.

"The school told him that I could only stay with Luke for 4 months, then I'd have to move on, then they asked Tom, and he said he could take me for 3 after Luke couldn't have me anymore." Dan spoke, looking slightly uncomfortable.

"If we had enough room, I'd offer for you to live with us." Phil said, saddened by Dan's situation.

"It's OK, don't stress yourself Phil. I'm thinking more about my experience here than where I sleep, to be completely honest." Dan spoke reassuringly, before noticing they had arrived back at Phil's house.

~

Phil honestly couldn't help but feel slightly worthless in this situation. When Dan had spoken about the housing situation, he'd mentioned a few things that made Phil feel even less important to the German. One being, the fact that Dan seemed to throw people of less importance into the back of his mind. Honestly, Phil was terrified that that would be his fate. Trying to banish the overthinking, he just smiled and walked as Dan continued talking.

~

The front door slammed with a bang, an warning of the impending storm. Phil jumped, screeching loudly. Dan almost cackled at the reaction.

"Phil!" He managed to stutter out between laughs. "It wasn't that bad!"

Phil blushed. "It was scary Dan."

Dan chuckled. "Sure it was, PHIL." He mocked, making Phil lunge after him. Dan yelped before sprinting into the loungeroom. Lacking knowledge of the layout of the house, Dan found himself quickly cornered. Phil ran through the doorway, puffing, before grinning widely and running at Dan, cowering in the corner. Phil wasn't entirely sure what had taken over him, the newfound confidence and energy shocking him. If this was anyone else, he would've been apologising and acting entirely submissive, yet with Dan, for some reason he could summon the energy to suppress his worries. Although still not over the insecurity and doubt over whether Dan actually valued Phil, which Phil was attempting to dismiss as overthinking, he felt comfortable, in a way that he'd never felt before. He also couldn't feel but the slightest bit selfish at valuing his feelings over Dan's.

Jesus, Phil, he thought. Just stop it.

Awoken from his space out, Phil focused yet again on Dan, who had a maniacal grin on his face.

"Phil, nein, nein, NEIN!" He screeched as Phil lunged at him, tackling him to the floor. Dan began spittting out random German words while giggling uncontrollably as Phil pinned his arms down.

The atmosphere couldn't have changed any quicker.

Phil's face hung over Dan's, both puffing. Phil's hair hung down slightly, his eye's lidded ever so slightly also. Dan let out a soft giggle at the change of atmosphere, but silenced himself as he stared into Phil's eye's overhead his own. Only then, did Dan notice beautiful flecks of yellow and green in the mass of sky blue. Phil's eye's were a forest. Dan closed his mouth, realising it had been slightly agape, before smiling gently. The intimacy hung heavy, until it evolved into an awkward air, as the two silently realised the other wasn't going to make a move.

Phil laughed awkwardly, swiping his fringe out of his face as he sat up and clambered off Dan. The thrill of the moment still hung over him, as he looked towards Dan, who was pushing himself up on to his elbows. Calmy, he smiled at Phil.

"Let's go get our dinner." He breathed out, standing up. He reached for Phil's hand, the latter taking it graciously as he stood up also.
