Chapter quote: "We cannot build the future for our children, But we can build our children for the future." -Franklin Roosevelt
Every year, my family takes a 'surprise vacation' and this year, We were visiting Hawaii.
My mom called me, "David honey, we're going to be late!"
Of course, I just so happened to be the unprepared child, I was packing, right before we were leaving.
I ran down the stairs, tripping over my own feet on the last step and creating a resounding crash. Eric, My little brother, screamed, "Mommy! Davey fell again!"
He was gonna be on my case this whole trip.
Eric (10) and Lissy (17), were lounging on the couch, Lissy smiled, "Someone hit the floor hard, don't tell me, you forgot about the last step again." She teased me. For 3 siblings living in close quarters, We got along surprisingly well most of the time. Except when Eric decided to be a tattle tale. Then he had no allies.
My mom entered the room, anxiously wringing her hands, off of the top of her head, She began reciting her trip checklist and checking it off aloud.
"Bags? Lights off? Everything ready?"
She hates flying, But family vacation was always worth facing her fear.
My siblings and I smiled and simultaneously went, "Everything's good, let's go!"
We all hastily put or luggage in the car, got in, And with a chorus of five clicking seatbelts, away we went. It would take around an hour to get to the airport, so I got out a drawing pad and pencil. Lissy leaned over, "Hmmm, you should draw a Dragon." Lissy loves fantasy, And at home, She has a stack of requested drawings in her room that I've done. She muttered to herself, "Why can't i draw like he does?"
The car ride went by quickly, and we found ourselves at the airport soon enough. I was beyond exited. Flying was one of my favorite things, right up there with drawing, I was a tiny bit nervous though, My family would be seated several rows back from me due to the varying prices of seats.
I ended up between a girl my age, and an elderly man who kept coughing. I would've talked to the girl, but she was reading and I didn't want to bother her. With a sigh, I put on my headphones, closed my eyes, and prepared for take off.
