Lucas Twol POV
I shake my little brother from his sleep so I can get out bed. He wakes up and rubs the sleep from his eyes and we both grab our clothes that are lying on our dresser and grab out our small bags. We creep downstairs and past the parents room and out of the house towards the bakery. I open the door without a sound and we walk into the back room and through the door which leads outside and there is a little shack and we get changed in there and we do our hair nicely and brush our teeth.

Mrs. Mason opens the door with lots of creaks and groans and moans from the door and she asks us "you two nearly done because we are ready to have breakfast" we nod our heads and follow her inside when we get to the door of the dining room my brother and I exchange happy glances and take in a deep breath of the bakery air.

We step inside and smell the freshly cooked bread that must've just came out of the oven and the salt from the butter that they must've got yesterday. "Hallow Lucas, hallow Oscar" greets the bakers son Oliver, who happens to be my best friend. "Hi Oliver! Hi Mr. Mason!" We say to them. "Morning boys, sleep well?" He asks us and we both shake our heads "Nah we shared the same thin mattress again even though the other rooms were perfectly empty, you know the ones with the godly mattresses? Yeah them". I say to Mr. Mason. "That's terrible, especially on the day of the reaping!" Says Mrs. Mason. "We'd rather not talk about it if that's ok?" I ask, Mr and Mrs. Mason nod their heads. "On a happier note we have fresh bread that we pulled out of the oven an ten minutes ago so it's still hot" says Mrs. Mason trying to cheer us all up and it worked.

After we finish breakfast Oliver grabs mine and my brothers hands and leads us upstairs and he sits us down on his bed while he sits in comfy chair, but Oscar gets up and locks the door then sits on the spinny chair, these are our usual spots when we are here in Oliver's room, when we do anything. "You guys ok?" Oliver asks My brother and I "Yeah...."
"Really" he asks his eyebrows perked up
"Mmhmm" I say half heartedly knowing that I won't get out of it
"You sure?"
"Mmm, where is your sister by the way, I didn't see her this morning"
"Don't try and get out of it, but she's at a sleep over because of her being the volunteer"
"Yeah my older foster brother got to be a volunteer as well". I rub where my arm was meant to be and sigh, this has been going on for too long, I am getting out the only way I know how "I am volunteering to be a tribute" I say.
"What!?"gasps Oscar and Oliver in unison.
"It's the only way out if this hell hole, besides he was saying that he wasn't going to do it so I am case closed."

I lost my arm my foster parents being abusive to my brother Oscar and I so I decided that we would run away but mum caught us and.... I won't go into more details, I will just say we got caught and we were unconscious for weeks and I never got my left arm back and foster parents have been like that ever since. My older brother isn't my blood brother he is just my foster brother so my 'parents' adore him. So that's as much as I can tell you without doing any details except that we are in a lot of pain.

The bell rings signalling we've got an hour until we have to be in the town square. Oscar, Oliver and I stand up and walk downstairs and say our goodbyes. Mr and Mrs. Mason reply "And may the odds be ever in your favour" in the nasal Capitol voice and we all laugh. We walk out the front door towards the nut, a giant hill where miners come in and out of getting rocks and maybe even gems from in there and under ground. As we walk closer we see our friends standing there: Billy who is Oscar's best friend, Jacob which is Oliver's and mine best friend, Jaksen who is Jacobs little brother and Oscar's best friend and Owen, Jakson and Jacobs baby brother.

We meet up with them and we exchange greetings before we all go and sit near the fence, the most protected area, so we don't get bullied or anything like that today.

Felicity Mason POV
When I got picked as the volunteer I nearly had a fit, I can't do this, who will look after my family and the two boys that come every day and help out? I treat to them everyday because they always open wounds, they never accept at first but as soon as I do it they thank me, and they look so much happier and less pained. But I can see the fear in their eyes when no one else can. I am the one who go and gets the stuff for the bakery at the entrance of district 2 along with Oscar, Oliver and Lucas. Mum and Dad always forget, they will starve but I can't back down, if I win I can give Oscar and Lucas the proper treatment and I can help people, the district might not starve as much because we can't give people bread without them paying for it now but if I win we can give it away!
