chapter 12: sister's birthday pt1

i got out of bed after a couple of minutes and went over to the dresser in draco's dorm that i use. i found some comfy clothes to wear and went to the bathroom to change. i walked out and draco walked in to get ready.

"what do you want for breakfast today?" he asked me after he was ready.

"i'm actually gonna come down to the great hall with you today." i responded, brushing my hair while i looked in the mirror that was sitting in the dresser.

"okay! when you're done brushing your hair we can get going!" a minute later, i finished brushing my hair and draco and i made our way out the dorm. when we were a few yards away from the great hall, i started getting nervous. what would everyone think of my not coming to meals? what would they think of me not sleeping in my own dorm? only slytherins and very few hufflepuffs know where i've been sleeping.

"hey, it's okay. you can come sit at the slytherin table with me." he said when i stopped walking. i sighed and nodded. we started walking again until i jumped onto his back making him catch me and stumble forward.

"thanks for the warning." he said sarcastically. he lets me stay on his back as we walked the rest of the way to the great hall. he said something funny making me laugh as we walked in. heads snapped towards us, recognizing my laugh. everyone noticed i haven't been showing up apparently. i slid off of draco's back and followed him to the slytherin table. everyone went back to what they were doing except 6 people.

i looked at the hufflepuff table and caught cedric's eye. he quickly looked away. i furrowed my eyebrows and looked over at the gryffindor table. when i made eye contact with the twins, they just shook their heads. i sighed and looked over at snape. he smiled and nodded at me.

i looked over at the golden trio. ron was glaring at me, harry and hermione were looking at me with a confused look.

i looked at the food in front of me and sighed. i saw a plate of my sisters favorite food and held the tears back. some 5th and 6th years were walking together past me and i heard a bit of what they said.

"do you remember what today is? it's y/n l/n's sister's birthday. she's supposed to be 16 today." one of them said. i couldn't hold back the tears anymore and i slowly let them leak onto my face. before i know it the tears are running down my face like there's no tomorrow. i abruptly stood up and ran out of the great hall and to the astronomy tower.

*hermione pov*
i watched as y/n ran out of the room. i was about to stand up when ron grabbed my arm and forced me to stay down. i looked at draco who was running to the doors, following her. i smiled as i realized how much he cared for her.

out of the corner of my eye, i saw one of the professors stand up. i turned my head fully and watched as snape ran out of the room, following both of the two kids.

george and fred handed harry, ron, and i a letter from y/n that they got.

dear F and G,

you already know i won't be showing up to literally anything and that i won't be playing any pranks *and the tears stream down my face*
but, you don't know why.
tomorrow is my sisters 16th birthday. you didn't know i had a sister? no one really knows so don't feel upset i didn't tell you. i won't be celebrating with her anytime soon though. she's dead lol.
she really went 💀👉👻 hell she's probably haunting me right now! must be why i can never find anything! i might be back after tomorrow but i can't make any promises. it depends on how bad tomorrow is for me. but my babes, don't worry about me. i have two people staying with me all day to calm me down:)

ps play some pranks on filch for me aye?

*y/n pov*
i was having a panic attack. something i've grown used to since the night my sister died. i heard multiple footsteps running towards me. as the years streamed down my face, i turned my head over my right shoulder to see snape and draco.

snape sat down next to me and pulled me onto his lap. draco sat next him and grabbed my hand, rubbing his thumb on the back of my hand. as he did that i could feel myself calm down a little bit. i wrapped my other arm around snape and put my head in the crook of his neck. they both whisper comforting words until i fall asleep.
