Behind The Mask

"Grace? Is that youuu?" My best friend Meagan say's from somewhere in the apartment.

"Nope" I reply and drop my bag by the door kicking off my flats and sitting on the couch.

"How's it going chica?" Meagan asks walking into the living room in a fitted mid thigh red dress and black pumps.

"How's it going? Look at you" I wriggle my eyebrows sitting up more bringing my knees to my chest.

"A date actually" she says pushing up her boobs and I laugh at her attempts.

"Well ok then, thanks for leaving me again tonight" I sigh, she reaches over and pushes me slightly and then stands back up grabbing her purse, stopping in front if the door.

"Fine, tomorrow we can go do whatever you want?" She asks now opening the door.

I nod my head, a idea already in mind. I've been wanting to visit this new art gallery that opened up in the city, everyone in town have been talking about it and I looked up some of there paintings online and I couldn't keep my mouth closed.

If you haven't figured it out by now I love art. It expresses so many emotions that can not or can't be explained/said. Art is one beautiful thing and I find very calming. I'm tugged from my thoughts by the grumbling of my stomach.

Tonight I decide I'm going to be healthy and make myself some salad with lettuce, tomato, carrots, feta cheese, and olive oil. With a glass of water, nothing special. I sit myself down in the small dining room that's right next to the kitchen and eat in peace.

After my normal routine in the bathroom I'm finally able to climb into my sheets and snuggle up under the covers. The outside of my room is silent so I know Meagan isn't home yet. The room has a quiet and still aurora. My eyelids feel heavy just I as I hear a downpour of rain outside my window. Oh how I love the rain.
-
When I woke up the rain outside was gone and there was a clear sky. The sun shines through my window, I hadn't closed my curtains in days.

Finally I sit up, my feet feeling the cold wood floor of my room letting my know I can stand now. I brushed my teeth slower than usual because the gallery doesn't open until 5 and tonight there having a special viewing of a brand new painting called 'Blue Stars' and there's going to be music, finger food (yay), and obviously best of all the paintings.

Meagan was curled up on the couch watching some random show when I entered the living room.

"How was your date" I ask sitting myself down across from her. She looks to the floor and takes in a long breath.

"He um- he" she stuttered her voice cracked. Then I got this really sick feeling in my stomach scared for the words that she was trying to choke out.

"After the date he took me to his place..and we just hung out drank a few drinks," she paused taking another breath "then we kissed and he started to feel me up which I didn't mind until he tried to unzip my dress...when I pushed him off of me he uh- hit me" she said looking at me with unemotional eyes.

I was angry and felt horrible for Meagan. Some guys just don't understand that a heavy make out session isn't a ticket into are pants. And worst of all some men hurt women. I mean not all men are like that because I know a few good guys, but I'm saying other dudes are crazy jerks. Girls can be like that to though but in this case I didn't care. Some ass hurt my best friend.

"I'm so sorry Meag" I said joining her where she sat on the couch and pulling her into a hug.

"It's fine, I'm just glad I got out when I could. I did get him good though, I kicked him in the balls twice and punched him the nose hopefully breaking it" she smiled a little and sighing. "So that thing you wanted to do today?" She asked

I shook my head, I didn't want to make her go out. I felt bad, actually more than bad.

"Oh come on Grace, I want to get out. The more I stay in the more I think about what happened" she says rolling her eyes at my actions because I'm still shaking my head.

"Grace" she says placing her hands on my shoulders "stop overthinking this, what happened happened it was my lesson of the day. Now can we go out? Pleaseee?"

"Okay okay!" I smile
-
I was rushing to get out the door. It was already 7:30 and the viewing of the picture was at 8:15 and I wanted to be there.

I check myself for the billionth. I pull down the black dress trying to cover up more of my legs, but failing when it rises again. The dress went up to mid thigh, black, and hung of my shoulders. My hair was in it's natural wavy self framing my face. For makeup I did a red lip and little mascara. Meagan forced me to wear heels even though I hated them. She said I was so petite and short.

"Grace are you ready??!!" She yelled from the hallway, I followed her voice to find her by the door.

"You look gorgeous" I say to Meagan, her blue dress hugs her body at the top and flares out at the bottom, the back of the dress is open and she wears glittery silver pumps. The dress color made her eyes and hair stick out. She had her blonde hair braided and pinned into a bun letting her hazel eyes be the first thing you'd notice.

"Look at you sexy!"

I giggle at her compliment and finally we're out the door in the car. Meagan didn't like art gallery's. Or anything where you would view things. We were both social, her being the partier and I being the calmed one. It balanced us out. I was forced to go to party's sometimes and she was forced to take a break and learn something.

I pull into the parking lot my eyes scanning for a close one. Once were parked I do a touch up on my now faded lips, while Meagan pushes her boobs adjusting them.

I'm so excited getting here 10 minutes before the viewing starts. We each pay the entry fee and make it inside no problem. The place is crowded with fancy looking people.

The sound of little conversations, glasses clinking in a cheer, and music playing from a unknown spot. The sun is mostly set now, then a big bald man breaks me from my thoughts.

"Good evening, Ladies and Gentles! Tonight I'm so proudly to be here in front of you all, this has to be by far one of my favorite paintings in my collection!" He says his chin jiggling as he sways "Its here from Peru and now rests here in Georgia. I hope you all love this painting as much as I do and please enjoy the rest of your time here with the fine food and blissful music!!" The man signals another man who's much skinner and he comes up to the painting and and gently grips the black silk marital that covers the painting before pulling it off completely revealing a breath taking view.
