Between Two Worlds

Chapter 5

The clouds whirled and the birds circled above Fin. He rested on the stone wall that separates the land from the sizzling water, examined the crystal sea and took a deep breath. Where the hell is Mika? If she was also sucked inside the portal then, where is she? Is she safe? A lot of question raced his mind. Fin's stomach began to ache and churned really loud. Time to feed the little monster. He chuckled, went down the wall and walked aimlessly.

I picked myself up and went upstairs. Fin Grey, huh? His name taunts me but it also amazes me.

I went for my memory box, the one I'm keeping for how many years and found my family picture, my dad smiling innocently, who would know he'd betray my mom with another woman? Mom cheerfully hugs dad in the picture, squishing me between them. My timid sister in my left, holding dad's hand and my little brother lying on the floor, accompanied by our dog, Rook.

Uh oh! I forgot to feed him! I forgot to feed Rook. I went downstairs, to the kitchen, grabs his food and heads to our backyard door. I paused and sighed in relief when I saw mom's message sticking on the door saying "Done feeding Rook. Love, mom."

I went upstairs again, facing my memory box. Rook is our guard dog. He's huge, fierce and always sticks his tounge out to people passing by. He's our monster gobbler, eating massive amounts of leftovers everynight.

I mentioned my sister right? She's not here because she preferred to be with my cheating dad. I don't know what dad feeds my sister that she decides to leave me and mom. My little brother too, today he's eight years old, spoiled and bully.

My mom became the girl she is now because of the misfortunes in our family. If I could turn back time and not marry that bastard! she says one time at dinner. But that would also mean not giving birth to us. Just plain complicated.

But hey! who is this Fin Grey? Why are we the same, physically. Oh that waffle jerk I met yesterday, says I'm ugly but, Fin Grey looks fine to me.

Flashy grey eyes and that spiky hairdo is our only difference. Hair does matter huh? I went to the mirror and created a gravity defying hairdo. Hmm, I look like Fin but his hair does not fit my personality. I sighed and fixed my hair back. Playing a piano would be great. I thought, trying to patch up my boredom.

In the silent woods of Oakfiel, Fin ventures hoping to find food and shelter. Entangling vines and leaves on the floor are plentiful, and every step is snapping twigs. Finally, a glimpse of life caught his eye, the town of Griinux, the proud sign towers above him, giving Fin directions. The morning road was almost empty, kids running, few people mowning their lawns, couples bearing the sun's heat just to see each other.

Fin paused, a beautiful melody lingered in his ears, even more beautiful than the siren sisters can sing in Neverglades. The serenade captured Fin's attention. He approached a stranger and asked what makes up the noise.

"Oh! you don't know? It's a piano." The ginger nerd answered, wondering.

"A p-piano? Do they hypnotize people and lead them to watery death?"

Fin asked curiously.

"Hahaha. It's just an instrument people play." Chuckled the ginger nerd."By the way, nice costume."

They chatted for sometime, not noticing the approaching group of bullies. Their viscious smirks and buffy fists signals their need of trouble.

"It's Mr. Kurt, my favorite punching bag. Oh! and who's this new found friend of his? Getting ready for halloween huh? What a bunch of dorks!" The bullies laughed.

Greg, the leader, picked up Kurt by his shirt and taunts him to fight.

"You need your Mama huh? Too bad she's out of town." teases Kevin, the brown-eyed bully.

"Back off!" shouted Fin, gripping his blade and a slice of smirk sticked to his face. "Stay away from my ginger-haired friend!"

"What's with the props nerd number 2?"

"Leave him alone or I'll slay each and everyone of you, under the spell of the evil emperor." Fin yelled.

People just staring thinking it's another school show or roleplay.

The bullies saw the spark in the blade, realized it's real, dropped Kurt and ran.

"That suits them pretty well" says Fin proudly. "Come back here and fight like a man!"

"Thank you for sparing me a good day." cheered Kurt. "Nice meeting you Fin. I'm gonna visit my sister at school. Bye!"

"Farewell!" Fin bowed.

"I saved Kurt from the evil worshippers now I'll save the people here from an instrument. I'm gonna kill the Piano!" Fin thought, heading to where the sound is coming from.
