"Why can you never keep a girlfriend, Tooru? This behavior is getting ridiculous," Oikawa Tooru's father shouts in a fit of rage. "And you always spend all your time either playing your little games or with that Iwaizumi kid! Don't tell me you are a fag or something!"
Encounters like these are not unusual in the Oikawa household. That is, to say the least. What is worse, Tooru's family is not too keen on the idea of two people of the same sex getting married. They always try to engrave the idea that something even close to falling in love with the same gender is offensive and unheard of.
"Dad, I'm sorry! They are the ones that break up with me; it's not my fault!" Tooru desperately tries to explain to his father. "a-and I'm not gay... if that is what you are implying."
Little do they know, Tooru is, in fact, gay. Actually, no one besides three people know: Hitoka Yachi, Shimizu Kiyoko, and himself. It just so happens that he is in love with just the boy in question, his best friend, Iwaizumi Hajime. A strong, handsome, independent boy with spiked black hair, heavily lidded deep brown eyes, with a spunky attitude. He stands at the top of the Aoba Johsai Volleyball Team as the co-captain and ace. For all these reasons, Tooru feels attracted to the male. These are not the only ones, though. There is also the fact that the male seems rough around the edges but is one of the caring, observant people Tooru knows of. His seemingly, hard eyes become soft in the right circumstance. Either way, Tooru could get lost in them, like a deep pool of dark chocolate that Tooru would just love to swim in for hours on end. His father would be so disappointed.
"You better hope you are not a faggot, or else I will be transferring you to Shiratorizawa," the older male threatens with a pointed glare.
Ah, there it is, the threatening that would never be followed through. Either way, Tooru did not, under any circumstances, want to attend Shiratorizawa. He can not chance going there. His father knows this and uses it to his advantage. Tooru does not understand what was so wicked about homosexuality. In his eyes, love is love; nothing and no one should stand in the way of one's happiness for their own ideals. Sadly, his parents do not have such open views.
"Now go up to your room and do not come out till dinner," Tooru's father demands. "Oh, and make sure to do your homework and study. Your grades are slipping! You want to get into a good college, right?"
His lowest grade is a 94 percent, but he does not have the strength to argue after his volleyball practice running over schedule.
"Yes, sir. I am sorry," Tooru quickly mumbles before he rushes up to his room.
Upon entering, he plops onto his bed, looking up at the glow-in-the-dark stars stuck on his ceiling. He begins to wonder why nothing is working in his favor. Why can his parents not just be accepting? Why did they have to be so strict? What is so hard about letting him or anyone be happy and gay? Why can they not simply love him for who he is? Tears start to prickle into his vision. Trying to get his mind off of everything, Tooru thinks about his volleyball team. How nice they are, even if they tease him at times. He thinks about the few things in life that make him happy, like Space, setting, his Iwa-chan.
"His" Iwa-chan.
Tooru's mind says this as if Hajime were actually his. Sure, Hajime is his best friend, but he will never be more. Hell, he has to be the straightest person Tooru has ever met!
This reminds him, "Oh shit, I have to get a new girlfriend." Tooru lets out a huff in frustration. "Eh, I will worry about it tomorrow."
Tooru lays there for a moment, tears sinking back into his eyes before deciding to be productive. He shan't let himself wallow in self-pity for the rest of his life! The brunette trudges over to his desk, where his unfinished homework waits for him. Unwillingly, Tooru picks up a pencil and gets to work.
Though Tooru excels in math and science, he had trouble staying awake in his class. This leaves him in a constant state of anxiety, trying to piece together his homework. He may as well be trying to figure out how to time travel! It is utterly fruitless. After another failed attempt at trying to complete his calculus, Tooru sends a text to his friend. It is a desperate effort to try and understand even a sliver of the concept.
