The Darkness Within

14 - Memories of Time

A/n: Sorry that the last chapter was so short, but hey this one is super long so enjoy! (By super long I mean upwards of 5000 words, lowkey proud of myself).

As soon as she was aware, she distinctly knew she was not dreaming. The world around her was not a dream, and the things that manifested into her vision were not a figment of her imagination. They were important and she watched as they played before her like a movie of time itself.

Endless, colorless space surrounded her. She could feel that there was another like her near her, but there was neither darkness nor light. Her only hint in the world was the being-without-form nearby, and she decided she wished to meet them.

She moved, but it was not like normal. She too was a being-without-form, simply a young and knowledgless form, whose only thought was the alluring presence close by. She took a moment to learn to move and discovered in the process that she was a forever-changing shape of dark color in this blind world and that her form spread into the nothingness. Excited like a young child, she raced forward, stumbling over her newness.

When she found the Other in this world-of-nothing, she found that they were delighted with their newness as well. The Other was bright and less fluid than her, but they embraced forms and learned about each other's shape. The connection with the Other was magnificent and she felt a deep belonging with the Other, a balance that she enjoyed.

There was nothing in the nothingness to discover of course, but they attempted to search anyway. However, the only thing that either was able to see was each other, one fluid and dark, the other linear and light.

Time was not a concept, but she and the Other, her companion, grew enormously together. They blended and overlapped and balanced, but there was nothing else. They searched for eternity, but there was nothing besides themselves, and they knew it but they wished it otherwise.

And that was how they came to Create. They communicated in the way that only they knew how, and when they expressed their desire for a World, their combined balance allowed it. They started small, one tiny grain of their future home and love. From there, with ideas in their minds, they drew on never-depleting dregs of power and studiously created one small thing and then the next. They were eternal, and so time was their gift. They created the perfect, the balanced, World. They created the Laws of Existence, for which their World was governed, and they created planets and solar systems and galaxies.

Her darkness spread so far in their Time of Creation, and the Light created bright and warm places of light within. They balanced each other and understood that every piece of their world would not be possible without the other and they began to love each other. The Solar systems moved with perfection as they had designed, and the World was no longer nothingness because within her Darkness and with her companion's Light, the World was vast and wonderful. Their love for their creations and each other was endless and they enjoyed their time with the existence of a larger World.

As they grew in size with their power, the World they created grew as well. With it, their want for something more rose again. Their World did as it was told by their Laws of Existence, and they loved their creations, but it was not enough for them.

So, with help from the Light, she created a perfect place for the next stage in their Time of Creation. A galaxy, a solar system, a planet with a moon. Their love in this project was deeper, and they decided that such a planet should have a balance between the two of them. Sometimes Light would be prominent and sometimes Darkness would be prominent. However, there would always be traces of both in this place. Despite Light being the source of the moon's reflection, she herself claimed the silvery light for her celestial body in the sky from the planet's surface just as Light was responsible for the sun.
