"Hey Boris, thanks for listening to me earlier. I really appreciate you taking the time to come and talk to me," I said.
"No problem, its ok. You deserve to know why I acted like that. I'm sorry for getting angry and almost hurting you. That wasn't ok," Boris said, looking down at his feet.
"Hey, It's ok Boris. And whatever it is you need to tell me, I'm not pressuring you to. You can tell me whenever you feel comfortable,"
Boris smiled a genuine smile at me. He sat down on the swing and I sat down beside him. "Potter, I live alone most of the time. I never knew my mother and my dad is never home. He lives out of town and he comes home unexpectedly sometimes, drunk and whatnot. He's..." Boris lowered his voice. "Boris, its ok. You can trust me and you can take your time with whatever you need to say,"
He took a deep breath. "Its not you. Its just I never had anyone to talk to before you. I had to deal with a lot of stuff alone and I didn't know how to. I get really defensive and I guess I put up a wall to protect myself from everyone. I never really had anyone to talk to about anything and so I got angry a lot. That's my immediate reaction to everything bad that ever happens. So when you came and approached me I guess I just lashed my anger out on you. I didn't know how to react and I was just so frustrated at everything," It was at the moment that I felt okay. I realised that I wasn't alone. Boris and I went through the same thing. It was awful to hear but it was comforting in a way: knowing that maybe now I had someone to talk to and that I wasn't alone and the only person who had to go through this.
Boris looked towards the skyline not moving. The sun was setting, the sky was a beautiful warm orange. I moved closer towards Boris. I looked at him and slowly touched his hand. He didn't say anything and I didn't want to make him uncomfortable. I lightly squeezed his hand. He squeezed back and looked at me, smiling. I smiled back. I leaned my head into his shoulder. Boris used his other free arm and wrapped it around me pulling me closer. I closed my eyes. I had never been this close to another person. No one had ever shown me this much affection. We stayed like that for a while and if i'm being honest, I didn't want that moment to end. I wanted to stay like that with Boris forever. I didn't want to go back home where I felt alone. Boris cared about me and I did too. "Boris, thank you for telling me how you feel. I understand how it feels to be alone. My mum left when I was little and my dad comes and disappears a lot too. It really hurts having not even one person you can rely on," Boris looked at me.
"I'm sorry,"
"You have no reason to be sorry, none of this- what happened to the both of us- isn't our fault,"
"You really think so?"
"Everything will get better," I said. Boris hugged me and kissed my forehead. I blushed. I held his hand tight and looked as the sun finally set. Everything would get better and I knew it would. It was already starting to.
