I’m convinced that anyone with experience in books and reading knows what a prologue is. But just in case, you must know a prologue is an introducing chapter and that the action usually takes place before the actions described in the book.
But you won’t need the description right now because this book doesn’t have a prologue. You may as well ask why. And the answer is that there’s no need for an introducing chapter, because the book explains all the past events clearly. Still, there might be an event that needs introducing explanation.
I guess there was a need for a prologue after all!
27th August
Dear Diary,
I still can’t believe they actually accepted the offer! It’s ridiculous! I tried to convince them to chance their minds, but, no, they want it their way! It took them some months to decide. They finally agreed to have the wedding today. Of all days, they had to choose this one! In fact it was the day the baby came. I was the first to see her: a beautiful baby girl who had a terrible destiny. I felt kind of sorry for her, but if everything went right, she’d be able to live a normal life. What they didn’t realize was that they had to stay together for a few years, but they said they could cope with it. However, something tells me they’ll break up sooner that expected. How much can a forced marriage hold?
As the bride’s best friend, I was the baby’s babysitter during the wedding. It was lovely to be able to play with her. But after the wedding ceremony, when the party began, the baby was put to sleep. At the party I met David, and after we got to know each other, he invited me out. So tomorrow I have a date! I do hope it goes all right! David seemed…different. His eyes told me that. It was funny how I liked him from the moment I saw him. It certainly was love at first sight! But can it last?
Guess who else was there at the party? My ‘high school enemy’! She wasn’t really my enemy; she just couldn’t stand me although I had nothing with her. After graduation we made peace. She had changed so much. She was much more…nicer. She said it was because of her niece. She had finally a family member who loved her; I’m happy for her! She had never had any friends in high school and her family hated her. And they had reasons.
I’m leaving on Tuesday, so the bride came and asked me for advice at the end. At what age should she confess the truth to her new daughter? I told her it’d be better for everyone if Rosemary never found out…
