June made a beautiful speech at the end of the play. All the actors were proud of what they had put together. But there was one slight problem for the lead actor. Jacob felt something was missing from the success that night, but he couldn’t understand what. Suddenly the play didn’t feel important anymore, he just wanted to get home. But he couldn’t continue his life. He was an orphan. Or at least he thought so. He still hoped his father had just been kidnapped and not died. But now he didn’t know what to think.

He went to pick up his stuff and saw the box he had put the necklace in. He remembered the ‘incident’ that had happened that afternoon. But he couldn’t remember why he had taken that priceless memory with him. And when he opened the box and saw it was missing, he drove crazy. Had someone stolen it, or had he lost it?

“June, have you seen a heart necklace? It was my mother’s!”

But no one had seen it! Jacob missed his mother very much, and he couldn’t lose something as precious as the necklace. His mother had had it for a long time. It had been her wedding present. She had worn it almost every day of her life. Miranda Darvin had been a kind and loving person, the best mother Jacob could ever ask for. But one day, when Miranda came home, she simply fainted, without any notice. For the next year she stayed in bed, until she died exactly on Jacob’s fourth birthday. It was a tragedy for both Jacob and his father. Nobody else had known Miranda, her past was a mystery, but David didn’t care as long as they were together. Her necklace had been left behind, and David kept and treasured it well.

The family had always earned a living by agriculture. So until Jacob became old enough to help his father, he was sent to Drama classes, and continued taking them ever since. So he was sort of raised on stage.

But today, David had mysteriously vanished and poor Jacob was left all alone. But David wasn’t the only one who had vanished from Jacob’s life…

And now he couldn’t possibly figure out why he had brought the only thing left of his parents to the play. He was desperately searching for it. Then a blonde girl game to him.

“Excuse me, but aren’t you Jacob? My best friend told me about you. But I can’t remember her. And I wonder why… By the way, I’m Sarah.” Said Sarah who was beginning to have

some slight memories of Mary (or Rose, as we shall call her from now on).

“Yeah, well you’re not the only one who can’t remember something.” Said Jacob sadly, while he sat down on the scene; everyone had left.

But apparently, when Rose had disappeared, the roses were left behind, and Jacob happened to see them…and it all came back! He remembered not only what he had done with the necklace, but also everything about Rose. But why couldn’t anyone remember her? It was the second weird thing that had happened today. And he had to keep his oath. He had to protect Rose! But where on Earth was she?

“Is everything ok?” Sarah asked.

That gave Jacob an idea. If he could get Sarah to help, maybe he could find Rose more easily. Sarah had to accept, she was after all Rose’s best friend. But what if she wouldn’t? It was worth a try anyway.

“Um, Sarah, I just happen to know your friend, Rosemary. But apparently she has disappeared. Maybe you can help me find her.”

Sarah tried to remember Rose, but somehow the spell had been more efficient for her, since she had known Rose longer. But when she looked in Jacob eyes, she knew she couldn’t refuse. Still she needed some sort of…proof that this Rosemary really existed and that she knew her. Sarah was just trying to be realistic.

“I wish I could help, but I don’t know this Rosemary you talk about, and I know this is weird, but I need proof that she is my friend.”

“All right, I’ll find something. When can you come to ‘collect’ it?” asked Jacob, not giving up so easily. He was ambitious and he could find something to convince Sarah, no matter how long it took.  He was doing it for Rose.
