"Matty, I need you to be my fake boyfriend!" The sudden panic hit Olivia once again as she spotted her ex-boyfriend getting closer to her and Matty but it was too late. Jordan had reached them before Matty had a chance to respond to the crazy proposal.
"Olivia, I didn't expect to see you here," Jordan spoke, his arms tightly wrapped around a blonde girl's waist and a smug smile plastered on his face. That was the kind of man that Jordan was; he always believed that he was above everyone. As a dancer, you needed to be confident in your abilities to make it anywhere but it was clear to all who knew him that Jordan was overconfident.
Olivia's heart dropped at the sight of him. She felt like she had been doing so well post-breakup but seeing him in front of her and already moved on made her feel like shit. He took so much from her and yet, she was still mourning the breakdown of their relationship.
"It's a small world." The brunette gave her ex a tight-lipped smile as she thought about how small the world really was. Of all the places in the world, it was a horrible coincidence that the two of them happened to be in the same one. She couldn't wait until the meeting was over and she could return to pretending that he didn't exist until the next time that she saw him leap across her TV screen.
There was an awkwardness that was lingering in the air. It was painful for Olivia whilst it only made Jordan all the smugger until Matty stepped in.
"Hi, I'm Matty, Olivia's boyfriend." The taller of the two stuck his hand out for Jordan to shake but Jordan only turned his nose up in disgust. Jordan thought of himself as being the best. He didn't like the fact that Olivia had moved on and with someone who was a 'threat' to him. In Jordan's eyes, he was the best that Olivia was ever going to have. She should have been pining over him but the man towering over them both made it clear to him that she wasn't.
Matty smirked at Jordan's clear dislike for him before wrapping an arm around Olivia's waist. It was a tight grip he had on her waist but it wasn't anything that made her feel uncomfortable, in fact, it made her feel safe, secure, and somewhat secure in the situation that Olivia envisioned Hell to be like.
Olivia couldn't help but feel smug about how much Matty, her not-so-real boyfriend, was annoying Jordan. The brunette girl hadn't seen this side of her ex until their breakup and although she was grateful to be out of the relationship now, some part of her still loved him and longed for him. She knew that it was stupid but the heart wants what it wants.
The ex-couple continued to make small talk about how they were getting on with their lives and Olivia had been grateful that she and Matty hadn't had any slip-ups about their fake relationship. For her, everything was going smoothly and she couldn't wait to get home and forget that the conversation had ever happened.
"So Matty, how did the two of you meet?" Jordan's new girlfriend and Olivia's ex-assistant, Cassie, spoke up from beside the dancer and Olivia immediately tensed up. The fake couple had barely had time to introduce themselves to each other, nevermind come up with a cover story.
Matty could feel how tense Olivia was and so he absentmindedly rubbed his thumb back and forth against the bare skin on her waist that had been revealed by the design of her dress. Goosebumps involuntarily raised on her skin as she shivered underneath his soft touch and the muscles in her body immediately relaxed. Olivia Hale had absolutely no idea who Matty was but he certainly did something to her. That, or it was the Vodka shots that Ava had made her down before they made it to the club.
"Funny story actually," Matty let out a nervous laugh but tried to cover it up with a slight cough which only made Jordan raise his eyebrows at the tall man.
"After your breakup, Olivia felt like she needed to get away from everything here in Birmingham so she randomly stuck a pin in a map of the UK and landed on Nottingham, where I was based, and she went there. The team was doing a team-building exercise and we just so happened to be staying in the same hotel. We both couldn't sleep one night and ended up talking to each other in the hotel lobby. The rest, as they say, is history. Isn't it babe?" Matty looked down at the girl who was clinging so tightly onto his waist and gave her a wink, a curl falling into his eyes as he did so. The dimly lit club was no place to determine how a person looks but Olivia was standing close enough to Matty that she could tell straight away that he was exactly her type and that he was a very attractive individual.
"Seems like you moved on fast," Jordan muttered under his breath but it was still loud enough for Olivia to hear him over the music. Something about the comment made the feisty brunette snap.
"I could say the same about you considering we were still together when you got with Cassie. Come on, Matty. We're leaving." She grabbed a hold of his much larger hand, it engulfing her own, and pulled him away from the snobby couple and out into the nippy, cold air of Birmingham.
The girl was absolutely fuming. She was so angry that it probably distracted her from feeling just how cold it was outside in the fresh air. She couldn't believe that Jordan had had the cheek to say what he had said to her and despite her longer than necessary conversation with him, Ava was nowhere in sight.
"Tonight was very random but I have to say, I had fun pissing off your ex." Matty laughed to himself and Olivia could only offer him a tight-lipped smile, shivering and worried about the whereabouts of her best friend.
"Thanks for tonight, I really appreciate it." Her words, although necessary, were genuine. Without his compliance, she would have been made to look like a fool in front of her ex and the woman that she once trusted with everything. Nobody wanted that for themselves.
"You know, if you ever need someone to pose as your fake boyfriend again, I would be more than happy to step in, especially if it wipes the smug smile off that asshole's face. Here's my number." The taller of the two stepped forward and handed her a piece of paper with his phone number scrawled on it in his messy handwriting before sauntering away, looking for the group of friends that he had arrived with.
The night had been a total shitshow in Olivia's opinion. She had gone out clubbing with her best friend to forget about the terrible breakup that she had endured and instead of doing that, she ended up having a long catch-up with her ex and his new girlfriend. On the other hand, Olivia decided that it hadn't been a total shitshow. She did get the number of a very hot guy and that in itself was something to raise a glass to.

I wasn't going to start updating this until I was a fair bit through 'Ghost of You' buuut I've written a large chunk of 'Lovely' and I have something else up my sleeve before I make my return to football books. Besides, I am still so utterly in love with Matty Cash that I have to update this book because A) I love the plot (it's one of my favourites) and B) Matty looked so fine today (9th May bc I wrote this 10 days ago before he got injured again) that I have to honour that haha.
