The serpent was astonished that these pathetic humans would convict his human while she laid in this state. Could they not see she was dying right before their eyes? Why try to convince themselves that she was behind the murders when it was clear she wasn't even conscious?

     Pathetic.

     Stupid mortals.

He glared harshly at the one called Gabriel after Pythios left the room, staying curled up in the lap of his Summoner and ready to defend if anyone dared to touch her.

She seemed to be in a trance of some sort, one that was worrying him badly. Would she ever snap out of it? The serpent was unsure as his tongue flicked out and tasted the cool air. He didn't want to lose her at all. He loved the girl he was bonded to. But he could feel her life force draining, and none of these people seemed to realize it. No. They were all too concerned about finding a reason to blame Kyran for the murders she didn't commit.

He hissed aggressively at Gabriel, to which the man turned toward him with a raised eyebrow. The anger he felt toward these people was multiplied when he looked into those eyes and found nothing there. No remorse for thinking the redhead could do this. No pity for her state. No worry that she was dying.

The serpent wanted to sink his fang into his flesh and watch him succumb to the venom.

But then again, he wasn't the main reason why she was in that state. The anger he felt for the unknown stranger who had framed his human and caused this mess to happen was growing, and he wanted to see her suffer as well.

The reptile could sense a fellow serpent traveling with the woman. Whether it was her spirit animal or a weapon, he didn't know nor did he care. All he knew was that they needed to leave his human alone.

He also felt unimaginable anger toward the court member who attacked Kyran. He had wounded her. The doctors had done what they could, but it was his venom that kept her alive right now. Or else she would have died a week ago. The thought was terrifying.

The serpent didn't know what it was like to lose a bonded partner, nor did he want to find out. The fact that they nearly reached that stage was causing him to lose hope as the days continued on. Every second she stayed in her statue-like state was heartbreaking. Whether she survived or not depended mainly on her will to live.

As of late, however, her will to live was in the negative numbers.

He had seen her diminishing spirit. Once a wild animal, incapable of being tamed, now reduced to nothing more than a servant to a royal.

If he could break the blood bond, he would do so without hesitation. But it was too late now. He didn't understand what exactly it was, but he did know of the danger that came along with it.

Another hiss escaped his jaws, this one more exasperated than the last one. The reptile was tired, truly exhausted and wanted nothing more than to rest for a while before waking up and slithering away to hunt rats. But he couldn't do that with his human in such a state.

He would not leave her alone while she was so vulnerable to the one framing her and to these court members who threatened to lock her away. No. He would not let any harm come to her. Even if it meant his life, Kyran would not spend another day in a cell.

Sīdereus hissed again at Gabriel when the man dared to look in his direction again. He was furious. He was completely enraged at them all for even thinking his human could be capable of murder. All she had ever wanted was a family to love her, and she believed these people could give it to her. Now they turned on her, as all humans did.

Truly, not even the blood oath was faithful to its word. It did not bind humans to one another. It tainted minds and destroyed lives. Kyran would have been fine as the queen of the streets, the wild dragon who could not be tamed by mere mortals. Her will alone was unbreakable. He knew it. But now . . .
