The sound of silence was deafening. It over-swept my body and nerves consumed me.

Gabriel was tightly holding my hand, maybe in reassurance, maybe with possessiveness. Right now I was too anxious to care.

“I can’t believe this.”

My eyes connect with my brothers as he breaks the silence. His eyes give nothing away as he sits rigidly with Adelaide curled to his side.

“What exactly can you not believe, pup?” Gabriel growls at my brother as he releases my hand and securely wraps his strong arm around my waist.

Adrian’s wolf whimpers at Gabriel’s tone and his bows his head in resignation. I hate seeing my brother acting so submissive when he’s usually so head-strong, but I can't move or speak. My whole body is closed off from reality.

“Alpha Gabriel, may I ask something?” Adelaide spoke in a frightened voice that isn’t like her outgoing personality at all. Gabriel gives a brisk nod and Adelaide continues. “Does this mean Adrian and Charlotte can stay here?”

Gabriel suddenly growls at Adelaide, holding me closer to his chest and no-doubt glaring at my brother’s mate with deadly eyes.

“I do not care for Adrian, but Charlotte is my mate and I will not let her go from my sights; let alone leave. At this moment your mate will leave unless Charlotte says otherwise.”

All eyes suddenly flick to me as I suddenly came back to reality. Although this moment was very tense, it warmed my heart that Gabriel was going on my decision and not being the normal, stubborn Alpha who didn’t listen to his Luna.

“Baby?”

My eyes flick to my mates as he looks at me with concern and love. I’ll never get used to how much I love that look.

“Of course I want my brother to stay,” I tell Gabriel as I give Adrian a warm smile.

I look back to my mate as he probes my chin up with his finger softly pressing his lips to mine for a moment before pulling back. “Okay,” he tells me with a soft smile. “You can stay here and join my pack.” Gabriel’s whole demeanour changes as he turned to face Adrian, now sitting upright - showing his full height as he radiates power.

“Thank you Alpha Gabriel,” my brother bows his head in appreciation before turning to me. “Are you happy Charlie?”

I could feel Gabriel tense at Adrian’s question and hold me tighter as Adrian looks at me questionably.

“Of course I’m happy Ad,” I reply softly as I lean across and squeeze my brother’s hand. “We’ve both found our mates who are wonderful people.”

Adrian and Adelaide both gave me warm smiles before standing up, entwining their hands together.

“Well we’ll be off. Thanks again Alpha Gabriel and I’ll see you around Charlie.”

As I watch Adrian and Adelaide leave, I’m softly lifted unto Gabriel’s lap, his arms wrapping around me in a way that made me feel safe.

“Do you really think I’m a wonderful person?” Gabriel nuzzles my neck and plants a soft kiss on my collarbone; tingles running through my body, making my wolf rouse from her slumber.

“Of course I do Gabe,” I state, wrapping my arms around my mates neck whilst softly tugging his hair; my fingers getting lost in his charcoal tousles.

‘Take him Charlotte, take him now.’

I ignore my aroused wolf and focus on my mate, who now had my attention as he strokes my cheek with his warm hand.

“You’re the one who’s wonderful Charlotte. I can already tell you’re kind, compassionate, understanding, and smart and of course the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he murmurs, planting soft kisses on my neck after every word.

Oh my.

After such a short time I already was developing strong feelings for my mate. Every second with him made me adore him more and be grateful the moon goddess paired me with this beautiful man.

‘Don’t waste any time then. Take our mate’.

From the way my wolf was getting desperate to mate with Gabriel I knew my heat was soon, something that made me extremely nervous.

“Baby, you zoned out a bit there.”

Gabriel was staring down at me as I came back to reality. I should really fix my problem of zoning out.

“Sorry, I’m just tired. It’s been an intense day.” I smile at Gabriel in reassurance and kiss his jaw, feeling him tense at my brave behaviour.

I could tell Gabriel was already very protective of me, from the way he held me to his eyes watching me intently. When I said I was tired his green orbs latched onto me again; feeding off of me and checking to see I was indeed tired.

Lifting me up and placing me on my feet, Gabriel tugged my hand and towed me out of the room. “Come, I’ll show you our room.”

Our? My heart warmed when my mate said that, although the scared, shy part of me kicked in and I froze, my feet no longer working.

Gabe immediately stopped walking and we landed outside of a pair of grand wooden doors, presumably our  bedroom. Oh no, I’m not sure if I’m ready for this.

“Charlotte, what’s wrong?”

Strong, skilled hands were gently holding my face, caressing my cheeks and softly reassuring me in a unique way.

Suddenly I wasn’t the brave girl who moments ago had her first kiss and made the decision to keep her brother in this pack. No, I was back to Charlotte the shy; the frigid, the wallflower yet to understand the immensity of life. Honestly, it kind of sucked.

“Um,” I start, looking up into Gabriel’s hopeful eyes. “I don’t really, uh think I’m really ready to share a room. I’m sorry.”

They weren’t hopeful eyes anymore. I’d ruined that, no one else but me. It was easy to understand Gabriel wasn’t an open person and so far he’d tried with me, he really had. God actual damn…

“Fine if that’s what you want. I’ll take you to the room you stayed in last night,” he answers curtly, abruptly turning on his feet and walking ahead of me, not taking my hand this time. Shit, he’s mad.

I follow Gabriel in silence, hoping he would eventually see where I was coming from in my decision.

“Okay, this will be your room from now on. Dinner will be served at 7 so I’ll see you then.”

He seemed awfully quick to get to the point, to leave no doubt and be away from me. The talk of dinner made my stomach quench and churn. All that has happened today hasn’t left me feeling hungry, I just wanted to lie down and rest.

“I don’t think I’ll be done for dinner tonight, sorry. I’m awfully tired,” I explain.

Gabriel’s face scrunched up at my explanation and I knew he wasn’t happy I wasn’t going to eat, not that he would say so. “Alright, goodnight then Charlotte,” he said, briskly turning on his heel and leaving just like that. And just like that I was alone again.

So sorry for the long wait. It's been awfully hectic lately.

Anyway, enjoy!
