"That was delicious."Lisa smiled, standing to begin clearing away the dishes from our Christmas feast. "You say that every time dear."
Greg grinned, shifting their son, Mark who was 2, to his shoulder, "Yes and every time it's true."
She laughed then, stopping to give him a quick on the lips.
I stood up, beginning to help clear away the leftover food, and move it to the kitchen to store in the fridge.
Kinsie and Gracie were off somewhere in the house, playing with new toys and enjoying each other's company. Every once in a while we would hear a shriek of laughter followed by more giggling,
"Please feel free to take some of the leftovers home," Lisa begged," we aren't going to eat it."
"Always," Nathan looked up for a moment, before smiling back down at his youngest who was asleep in his arms, "Christmas leftovers taste better after anyways."
"And I stand by what I said the day Mom and Dad brought you home from the hospital: You are an alien."
We all laughed at that, Lisa and I continuing to as the brotherly bickering picked up again.
After loading up the food in the car, and the presents Gracie had left downstairs, we managed to lure her down to leave.
"Merry Christmas Uncle Nath, " Kinsie sidled up to her uncle for a hug.
Nathan swept her up in his arms, making her giggle., "Merry Christmas sweet girl." he planted a big kiss on her cheek before setting down.
She wiped her cheek, still giggling before walking over to me. "Merry Christmas Ellie," She whispered shyly, barely looking up at me.
I bent down and wrapped my arms around her, "Merry Christmas Kinsie."
She smiled then, walking back over to her mom.
"Well, Merry Christmas and good night." Nathan said, opening the door.
"Hey wait!"
We both turned to see just what Lisa needed.
Pointing up, she grinned. You're under the mistletoe!"
My eyes widened slightly. Surely Lisa didn't think...
"You know what that means Nath."
Oh, clearly, she did.
Nathan looked at me for a second, eyes questioning, almost asking of it was okay. I shrugged my shoulders slightly as if to say "it's okay with me."
He stepped forward then, his hand cupping my face, with his thumb gently tracing my lower lip. He leaned in, and I closed my eyes.
It was simple. Or lips touched for a 1 2 3 seconds before he broke the contact, his hand falling away.
Lisa had a small knowing smile on her face, Greg had a smirk, and I was sure I had a very dumb look on my face.
Nathan nodded, and picked up Abby's car seat. "good night!"
"Good night!"
The car ride home was silent, Gracie and Abby both asleep in the backseat.
Once we pulled into the garage, Nathan and I each took a girl, and took them upstairs to put them to bed.Gracie had her one hand in my hair, the other holding on to a new doll she had received that day. Gently untangling her fingers from my hair, I helped her change into pajamas, and then tucked her into bed.
