*(Cole) POV *
"...welcome party ?"
I didn't catch the first part of Luke's sentence but I was vaguely aware it had something to do with a party, probably the welcome that the school holds every term. Having being a part of Raven since I was 14, I pretty much knew how this place worked and what the party would hold but Luke, one of the new kids, didn't know a thing.
But still I had to make sure he was actually talking about the party. I shoved my books in my locker and tuned to Luke this time promising myself to focus on what he is saying.
"Sorry, what was that Luke ?" I asked as I made my way towards head Sherrie's office, she wanted to see me but what for I didn't know. Probably to ask how Luke is getting on in his new form as a wolf, he barely just got through the first few weeks of being a new wolf. The first weeks are always the hardest.
"Are you going to the welcome party ? I know you are one of the mentors and the elders but I am sure you can still go right ?" Luke repeats. And he is right because I am one of the 10 mentors in Raven but I am not really all that of an elder. I am still trying to get back to humanity and to be honest, I am only 4 years in Wolf age. But then again, this newbie is still trying to get his head around everything that comes with being a wolf.
"I don't know mate. I guess it just depends but if you want me to go, I will since I am your mentor " I say to him and this gets me the reaction I expected because he face lights up and his mouth transforms into a genuine smile when he mumbles a thank you.
I nod at him then tell him how I have to go see the head Sherrie since she is expecting me then I make my way to her office. As I pass students, I try to not read their Ora but it's so hard as every colour is like a big sign that screams " READ ME ! ". I put my hood up and look down speeding up but still walking.
When I get to her office, I am about to knock when head Sherrie pops out behind the door smiling her over enthusiastic same old smile but I return the smile and go in when she invites me in. I try to keep all negative thoughts, especially about her, at bay so that if by "chance " she happens to be reading every thought I had the past 18 years of my life like an open books. She motions for me to take the seat opposite her.
"So Cole, how have you been ? " She still has that same smile but now her grey eyes aren't shinning as much as few second ago . I smile politely anyways and tell her I have been great, hoping to get to the bottom of this little meeting as soon as possible. Then she asks about how Luke Mayian is doing as expected to which I answer he is doing fine, just as politely as the first question.
Then Finally, when I am about to get up thinking that we are done here, she asks me something I didn't expect to be asked. Partly because I am not a Tracker and partly because, this has nothing to do with me what's so ever.
"Sorry but I don't think I understand what you are asking me ." I say even more confused by her knowing smile. She stands up and takes out a Tracker badge, from her desk drawer then places it on the desk separating us.
"Cole, this must be very confusing but when I got a vision of the girl, I saw your face then you were with her but then I thought that can't be possible since you don't even know who she is. I was just confused as you are now but of course it came to me last night: she has be immortalis nexu."
She took a small pause and then she handed me the Tracker badge, her grey eyes pouring into me. I took the badge from her but the immprta-whatever explained nothing to me. What the heck did nexu even mean ? I was stopped mid confused by Sherrie's quiet chuckle. Great now she is laughing at me ?
She raised one eye brow but left it at that continuing her explanation. " This student is not like any other student here, she not just changing into one form. She a mix of three things but like every student here, she won't go through a physical change but a mental change." She stopped and said " Do you understand so far Cole?"
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at her, of course I understood but still what did it have to do with me ? I just nodded at her keeping my eyes on the deep turquoise walls. Doing my best to not let her inside my head.
"Good. Your involvement here is that every time I looks at her future, there you are and who better to mentor her and help her get through this? She somewhere in London in a care home but when the trackers go to fetch her Tomorrow, you will be going with them.
Now I know you are already mentoring Luke but if it's hard for you to mentor the two, I will place Luke with someone else and you can help Scarlet, that by the way is her name"
Scarlet. Pretty name but I still don't understand what she to do with me, just because I am in her future means nothing. Of course that could mean anything like oh say she could pump into me at least once when she gets here. When I voice this out loud, head Sherrie tells me she thought of that but she gets a feeling of immortalis nexu when she sees us together in a vision.
"Immorta-what ?"
"mmortalis nexu. It is Latin but it means, Immortal connection. It's a rare thing that is found in 1 in billion immortals." She looks so serious that it takes everything in me to not laugh in her face. Immortal connection !? Psh ! But again I nod politely waiting for her to finish so I can tell her I am flattered but no.
" You will be required to help her through everything and as her mentor, be there for her. It won't be easy for her to trust you but earn her trust. Don't let me down. Any questions?" Sorry to let you down but I am just not ready for all this heavy stuff.
"Yes, I am very flattered that you picked me but the thing is, it's already hard enough with Luke and honestly, I can't do it. Sorry. " I say to her but she stands up looking down on me so that I am forced to look up at her.
"Oh Cole, you don't have a choice, it's what the Gods want you to do. I or any other immortal can't force this nexu. If it's too hard with Luke, I will transfer him to another mentor but you absolutely have to mentor Scarlet. " She says firmly handing me a note book and from one stare in her eye, I can feel the power radiating of her and I knew this wasn't up for discussion.
Any other newbie and I would have dropped them in my anger but for some reason, I couldn't do to Luke, he just was so lost and honest that I felt like I had to take him on but that only added to my anger. I gritted my teeth and said through clenched teeth that I would take on both of them. I got up knowing this was about as far she would be able push me. At least for today.
She clapped me on the shoulder then opened the door for me. Just I was about to to leave, she says " I knew you would Cole and take the day off to pack few things because tomorrow you will be expected to leave with the Trackers for London. Good luck."
And with that she closed her door.
Great. Perfect, I am sure I will have a great time telling Lia, my vampire girlfriend, about all of this.
