"You see, when the two places went into war, a truce was declared, but they were never to speak of each other again." The old woman speaking looked over at the teenager sitting across from her who was staring back intently, waiting for her to go on. She did.

"One kept color in their world. The other got rid of it. Any color left was the sign of a traitor. Hence the story of broken children."

The older woman looked down at her hand sadly, taking a breath before continuing.

"Some people from the place with color switched sides in the battle. Whether it was because of intentions or a result of trickery, we do not know. But with their pasts forgotten, they married colorless people. Children born from these couples were then given the ability to see one color...and they would be able to hold color. The rulers despised color and they declared these children 'broken'. These children would no longer be able to be a part of the community. They would be outcasts. Proof of traitors and spies.

"A few years ago, I decided to search for the colorless world and, if not try to bring back peace, at least try to bring 'broken children' back to the side of color. My mission failed, but I did find one thing. You.

"I'd never known I had a sister, but when I saw you, even after generatinos, you looked so much like me, Cecilia. I knew there had to be a connection. So upon coming back to the color world, I searched for ages through the old library documents until I discovered one that interested me.

"The document wasn't supposed to be read by anyone. It told about how when I was younger, my mother journeyed here with me, who she planned to dispose of. She'd heard about this world through old storybooks and wanted to see if it was real. However, she hated me, the adventurous child, and figured: if the color world was real, she would leave me there. And she did. And this is where I've grown up ever since."

The old woman smiled a wistful smile down at her grandniece.

"And this is where you shall grow up too."
