it's your fifth year at hogwarts and it and absolutely sucks. there are so many horrible things going on within the walls of your once favorite place to be. one of them being the newest self proclaimed headmistress, umbridge. you hate her. she makes your blood absolutely boil and whenever she giggles all you want to do is tackle her to the ground. she doesn't even allow you and your peers to practice magic in probably the most important class in school, defense against the dark arts. d.a.d.a is probably the one class that every witch and wizard needs to have at least a little bit of knowledge in and she is taking that away by making us read books that the ministry sent out. especially when he who must not be named is back. the ministry is doing everything they can to try and make it look like harry is just bluffing, but you know he isn't. you saw the fear in his eyes when he laid over cedric diggory's lifeless body. you know he's back, whether others want to admit it or not. you can't take it anymore.
"professor? what is reading about the dark arts in a book, that is more than likely older than all of us combined, going to teach us? the dark arts are very real and reading about it isn't going to do us any good. especially when voldemort is back." you bluntly say. you didn't fear voldemort as much as you probably should. he could most definitely kill you with out thinking twice but all you thought about him was how much of a coward he was. taking the lives of the innocent just because they are curious about another world? taking the lives of great people because they have blood from people from another world? for what? i don't think he even has a real reason other than them being "mudbloods".
"pardon me, miss y/l/n? you, along with mr. potter, mustn't tell lies in my class room." she smiles at you and harry. oh, you wanted to sucker punch her right then and there.
"and how can you be so sure that i'm lying? where is your proof that he isn't back? do you have any? a boy died, a life has been taken and you still think he isn't back?" you look at harry who is sitting next to you and he looks dreadful.
"i watched him die and i couldn't do anything. he's back and i'd have to be bloody mad to make that up." harry says glaring at umbridge.
"i have no room for lies in my classroom. miss y/l/n and mr. potter my office after school. 5:30 pm sharp. do not be late." she says with her smile once more but adding a chirp of a giggle at the end.
you meet harry outside of her office at exactly at 5:30 and walk into the pink office decorated with cat plates all around. it's enough pink to make you gag.
"ah, so glad you both made it. so you two will be writing lines for punishment today. you will write 'i mustn't tell lies' until the message is engraved where it should be." she greets.
you and harry both sit down and take your parchment out along with your quills.
"professor, i didn't think to bring ink do you have any i could borrow?" harry asks.
"oh you won't be needing any ink, you'll be using one of my special quills." she says handing you both a black quill. you and harry begin to write until you feel a horrible burning sensation in your non writing hand. you look down to see the line that you just wrote slowly engraving itself into your hand.
after the both of you have the line written into your hand she laughs and dismisses you both. as you walk out of the classroom you feel your eyes start to prickle as tears start to form. you know any second you're going to start bawling so you say a quiet goodnight to harry and pick up your pace in the direction of your dorm room. you speed walk looking down so no one would see you crying. the only sound that you can hear is your soft sniffles and the tapping of your shoes along the floors of the hallway. you couldn't hold your sobs in any longer so you turn into an empty corridor and begin to let it out.
"y/n?" you hear a familiar voice say.
you stop dead in your tracks and turn around to see a familiar face. "draco?"
"it's me, are you crying?" he says slowly walking up to you.
"um, no?" you say wiping the tears that have fallen down your cheeks.
you and draco have been secretly dating for almost four months. you've had to keep your relationship a secret from everyone because of the "educational decrees" that umbridge had proclaimed, one being that boys and girls are not allowed to be within eight inches of each other.
"yes you are. what's wrong, love?" he says taking your hands away from your face so he could replace them with his own, never breaking eye contact.
"umbridge. i hate her," you sob, "she's ruining everything. she's even torturing her students."
"torturing?" he questions, "y/n what did she do?"
you lift your hand and roll the sleeve to your robe up. draco looks worriedly into your eyes before taking your hand in his. he looks down at the newly formed scars and you hear his breath hitch. he delicately traces a finger over them as you suck in a sharp breath due to the pain. he looks back up into your eyes and sighs out, "oh baby. " as his heart shatters at the sight of you crying.
at this point you were crying not only because your hand hurt horribly, but the fact that everything you once loved is slowly being taken away and there was nothing you could do. every second you thought of a new thing that you missed and cried a little harder. all the emotions you've been bottling up are slowly but surely starting to pour out.
"c'mere." he says opening his arms for you. you gladly accept his offer and welcome his embrace. one arm wraps tightly around your waist and the other goes to stroke your hair.
"shh. shh. it's okay darling, i've got you." he assures.
draco stands there holding you, swaying back and forth as you silently cry into his robes.
"i'll always have you, love. forever."
you were safe.
