"so what's your name" i ask when she starts walking next to me

she clears her throat "uh its joey" she says

"well hi joey im malakai" i say turning to give her a small smile

we don't talk for the next minute or so and then we reach the classroom for ap biology.

"well this is it. the teacher - mrs. wilder is pretty chill just don't disturb her class" i tell her when we stop at the classroom.

"that's nice my old ap biology teacher was such a bitch" she says laughing a bit

i smile at that. she has a nice laugh

"so after that you have lunch at the cafeteria which is just down this hallway and to the left but you can just follow the crowd because everyone's gonna go there" i tell her

"alright well im gonna go now good luck" i say starting to walk away and i hear a faint "bye" before i walk into the crowd to my next class

it's been about a week since i talked to joey. honestly i haven't really been thinking about it. ive seen her in the hallways a few times and i smiled at her but im not sure she noticed. she always seems to be somewhere else mentally. i only have a few classes with her and i only have one class with her and el. shes skipped most of them tho so we don't run into each other often. but today she's in class and apparently the teacher is planning on assigning a group project. we have a class witch is like a mix of history and art where we mostly talk about sculptures or painting and talk about theire meaning and what they brought to our history or we just talk about what we think the artist meant with it. all of the art we discuss is mostly somehow connected to cristianity. of course. but i still enjoyed the class.

(also disclaimer i don't remember the name of the teacher that was shown in episode 9 so ill be making something up)

"alright guys, please put your phones down we're gonna start now" mis. garcia says, bringing our attention to the front of the class.

"so as some of you already heard we're gonna do a group project this week. that means our class on friday won't happen so you have time to finish this project. but i expect you to present it next monday. the project isn't that hard. your group can pick any 2 sculptures or paintings that were created during the renaissance time period. you have you talk about both of your chosen art pieces and tell us the deeper meaning of them and tell us what you think the artist was trying to tell with it. so you'll have to present both art pieces, what you think it's about and what the artist was trying to show. i want to guys to make groups of three so that means we will have four groups. and please take this seriously i want a detailed presentation im letting you choose your own group so your work is good. okay? you got that? "she finishes but at the end people are already talking and making group so no one pays much attention to her. i hear her sigh and mutter something under her breath but i feel el tap on my shoulder.

" so who's gonna be the lucky 3rd person in our group " she questions raising her brow

i turn around at that and quickly spot joey sitting at the end of the class

"joey do you wanna be in a group with us" i call out to her and her head quickly snaps her head up. i see her hod and start making her way to us.

when i turn my head i see el smirking at me "what" i whisper to her, creasing my eyebrows. she just laughs quietly.

"hey guys" i hear joey say sitting down next to us i turn my head to her smile and say a quick hi

"so joey this is michelle im not sure you have met" el smiles at her and they exchange a hello.

"okay well are you free today joey? we can start working on it today" she nods at me.

"hmm okay el can we go to your place today" i question turning to look at her

"yeah my dads out of town and my mom is only gonna be home later" she smiles at me

"alright well joey we can meet near the exit of the school and start going to el's place" i say and she just says "yeah okay"

school ends pretty soon so now me and el are walking to meet up with joey.

i quickly spot joey and it looks like she's on the phone with someone

"hey look joey's over there" i tell el and see her turn her head to look at her

"do you think your mom will be on your ass about not going home?" she questions while we slowly walk to joey

"she honestly doesn't give a shit about me she just likes being in control so id say yes" i turn to look at el and give her a look

"shes such a bitch" she says

i just nod to her statement and we stop when we've reached joey

she gets off the phone and pulls me and el into a half hug. it throws me off a bit but i still hug her back

"hey guys" she says, pulling away from us and smiling

"someone seems happy" i tell her raising a eyebrow at her

she just smiles and we start walking again and i see michelle give me a look

after about 20 minutes we're almost at michelles place. we've had a few brief conversations but not many

i hear my ring tone so i get my phone out of my pocket seeing my mom is calling me i roll my eyes and decline

michelle turns around to look at me
"your mom?" she asks
"who else" she gives me look saying she's sorry

"anyways do you guys have any ideas for what we could do the project on" i ask the two, as we start nearing el's place

"uhh i don't" michelle shrugged

"i don't either but we can find something pretty fast" joey says as michelle starts to open the gaits to her place

here's the thing. her parents are kind of rich so they live in a really nice hourse in a good neighborhood. and her parents are the absolute sweetest. i love them more then my parents. she also has a little sister - tabitha she's 9 and she's a bit annoying but she doesn't mean it. i spend as much time as i can here with them

"well then let's get started" i say when we walk into the house
