"....And that's how we figure out if something is a bone or not using these simple items." Professor Drayce explained. He glanced at the watch on his wrist and looked up slyly. "There are still a solid 15 minutes to go but I'm done my lesson for the day. Should I let you go or should I introduce the next lesson?" He smirked and crossed his arms. Mai sighed and squinted at her professor. "I'm pretty sure if you introduce the next topic, we'll forget it by next class and you'll be forced to waste time to re-teach us everything." She sang. A few murmurs of agreement were heard and Professor Drayce looked at her with an exasperated smile. "You have a point. Enjoy the rest of your day guys, you can thank this one for convincing me to let you go early." He ran a hand through his messy brown hair turned back to his desk.
Mai finished packing her things and made her way to her professor's desk, wanting to catch him before he left. "Professor!" She called just as he slung his bag over his shoulder. "Professor, I was wondering about the excavation trip to Turkey in a few weeks, when will we be finding out who has been accepted?" She buttoned her jacket and looked at him expectantly. He looked at her and put his hands in his pocket. "Mai, I told you last week, I won't know until later this week, it's only Monday, we still have 5 days before the week ends. I know you want to hear your name but I can't tell you anything until I know more." He walked to the door and opened it for her. "Don't worry, if anyone is going to be on that list, I have high hopes it'll be you. Enjoy the rest of your day!" Mai grumbled at the lack of speed and walked out of the lecture hall and into the hallway where Mikey was waiting.
Michael Greyson, Mai's best friend since she was a kid, hated being called Michael. "It's too much of 'good' name." He would say to anyone that listened, and listen they did. "So? Did you get in or no?" Mikey asked and linked arms. "No, Professor Drayce is being stubborn. I know he knows the results, but he refuses to tell me." She grumbled. Mai's phoned buzzed at the same time that Mikey's did. They looked at each and shared a smirk. "Probably the group." They said at the same time.
'Hey! We still up for coffee at the Lakeside Café?' -Syd
'Definitely, I need to catch up with you girls, It's been too long!' -Tess
'Chill guys, we'll see each other in 1 hour.' -Mikey
Mai grinned at the messages and sent a selfie of Mikey and her. "Want to come to my house? Mom and Pops are out at the shop today, both of them decided to go so I'll be bored till we meet the others." Mikey nodded and walked into the elevator. "Sure, did you bring your car or did you take the bus?"
"Bus, Mom needed the car to make deliveries. I told her she could take it if she brought me back two muffins." she grinned and followed Mikey to his car.
"Why two? You can barely finish one even though you can eat an entire pizza yourself."
"Shut up! It was one fucking time. And it's for Teddy, he loves mom's muffins so he can have mine too."
"Y'all are sickeningly cute." He pretended to gag and ducked when Mai slapped his arm. "I speak the truth and nothing but." Mikey opened the trunk and put his stuff in it and walked to the front. Mai followed suit, fixing her beanie. "Why you gotta be so rude?" she sang, glaring at him. Mikey laughed and pulled out of the lot, putting on the radio for background music.

The pair reached the house quicker than Mai expected but then again, Mikey drives like he's on fire. Mai took her stuff and unlocked the front door, beckoning Mikey in. She went upstairs and laughed when she saw him make a beeline for Charlie's bed. Mai went to her room and changed from her loose pants and shirt to a dark beige sweater and a pair of blue skinny jeans. She quickly fixed her eyeliner and tied her hair into two braids before grabbing her high-tops, phone, and bag and making her way back downstairs. She put her shoes and bag by the front door and walked into the living room where Charlie the cat was trying to eat Mikey's finger.
