"Alright folks, I've added all of you to the email list and the group chat. I've sent out an email detailing everything you will need for the trip. Pack light because all 10 of you will be given a $5,000 credit to spend during your time there. We will be staying there for 4 months. Our flight is in a little less than 2 weeks. I'll send out an email with your flight details in the next week. Don't worry about housing, it will be provided for you but food and other necessities will only be provided sparingly, you may purchase anything you want with your credit." Professor Drayce had one of the other teacher hand out a thin binder labeled with each student's name.
"We aren't just going there on vacation, each of you will be required to submit a research report upon return and need to have a report of your findings ready each day. More details will be given as we get into a routine there. Enjoy your last 10 days at home guys." Professor Drayce closed his agenda and started packing up. Mai put her binder in her backpack and looked to Mikey. "Come on, let's go! Xavier and Teddy are both coming back! Teddy is coming to my place and I told Xavier we would pick him up and bring him to my place." Mai said, already putting on her coat and heading to the door. "Wait up Mai!" Mikey said, running after her with his things in his arms.
The ride home was a short one, Mai stopped to pick up her Mom's walnut banana chocolate chip muffins for Teddy and a welcome back cake for Xavier. It was a party for the two of them and Teddy decided to make his overnight trip a two day trip, stopping to sleep in a hotel during the night. Mai walked into her house where the rest of her friends were putting balloons up. Seth had his headphones on and was laying on the sofa with his eyes closed. "Seth get up! They're almost here!" she stated, tapping his foot with her own and walking into the kitchen to put the things.
Teddy knew about Xavier's arrival, while he did miss the kid, he hated the fact that they were arriving on the same day. He knew he wouldn't get to spend time with Mai. He went to his apartment to freshen up before texting Mai to let her know he was driving over to her house. Teddy was just about to leave his house before he remember to grab the small gift Carter and Maddi sent. Carter and Maddi, or Madelynn, were his 5-year old twin niece and nephew. They were his older sister Willow's kids. Mai knew Willow in school and they were friends, so it made sense that her kids know Mai as well. The twins knew Mai and had a playdate with her every week before they moved to a city a few hours away. Now they only saw each other once every few months when Willow came to visit Teddy and his mom.
Teddy parked his car and walked to the door, ringing the bell and waiting, hiding the wrapped package behind himself. "Hey Mai." He smiled when she came to the door. Mai, quite literally, launched herself and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Welcome back!" she said once she let go. "Come inside! I got you some muffins from Mom's bakery." She pulled his hand inside where the rest of the gang had already opened the muffin box and taken them.
"Mai these are awesome! Tell your mom I want the recipe." Seth said, taking another bite.
"Guys what the fuck? These were for Teddy." she glared. "Who opened it?"
All fingers immediately went towards Mikey who was sitting on a barstool, oblivious. "Mikey!" Mai groaned. "I should have known." She shook her head, laughing, and grabbed the last one. "I'll get you some more later. Try it!" she said, giving it to Teddy.
"Alright, oh, and this is for you." He said, giving her the gift. "Maddi and Carter sent it to you." Mai grinned and quickly opened it, pausing to read the card. 'Dear Aunt Mai, We miss you! Come visit us soon!' Inside the wrapping paper was a silver bracelet with a sparrow charm. "This is beautiful! I'll have to call Willow soon." She said, talking more to herself than him. An alarm sounded from the living room and the group scrambled. "Alright, Syd! You're coming with me to grab Xavier, and the rest of you should just sit and chat, from what I remember about X, he hates surprises." Mai said, grabbing her coat and keys. She kissed Teddy on the cheek and left. "Well, there goes my girlfriend, off to pick up some other guy." He sighed.
