"It was right here."

She searched her wardrobe frantically, sliding the outfits one after the other on the rack. Her tousled hair expressing her distress.

"Miss I swear on El Chapo , I didn't see it." Marie squeaked seeing her mistress digging her head in every nook and cranny of the room.

Huffing, Gloria turned around , about to blast her frustration on her but then her eyes dipped down to her bloated belly.

She was pregnant.

Wearing her black uniform with white apron on, a pathetic look on her face as she waited with baited breath for her wrath .

She was a new help so she didn't know this house didn't run like others.

"Which month?" Gloria asked curiously eyeing her belly.

Surprised, Marie placed a hand on her belly in a protective stance.

"F-fourth."

Pregnant and still working? , Gloria wondered at her strength. She was a pretty Latino woman but her fate wasn't as pretty as her .

Sighing , she dropped the cosmopolitan issue back on the dressing table . .and went towards her.

Marie's eyes went from wide to owlish.

Is mistress going to slap her?

For a second Gloria thought she wasn't breathing also she went from yellow to pale really fast, the anxiety creeping on her face.

Now, she was standing in front of her . She lifted her hand and Marie shut her eyes waiting for the sting on her cheek-

But it never came.

The hand went on her shoulder.

As if electrocuted, she opened up her eyes and glanced at the hand on her shoulder as if it was bomb about to be detonated.

"Marie," Marie's eyes snapped to her face," you really need to stop being so squeamish all the time. We are not like your old owners." Gloria said gently , easing out the tension from her bunched shoulders.

She knew all the rich household around here and had heard enough of stories floating around about owners whipping or slapping around the servants.

Like slaves.

Marie didn't reply but her eyes had shone a little.

With sheer disbelief.

"You understood what I said right?"

She kept staring.

"Right?"

This time Marie nooded fiercely.

"Okay good. Now go to the kitchen and get me a bowl of soup." Gloria added a smile with her order.

A smile always did wonders.

Marie was so dumbstruck, she kept looking at her and then as if realizing what she was doing...she whirled around and stalked out of her room, her legs wobbling a bit.

Sprinkle a pinch of kindness and watch the world unfold for you.

She prided herself in actually putting the quote in use. Because really the world was a dark place already, who needed extra hate? Everyone was going through something no one knew of.

"Everyone is on a battlefield, Glow. Watch how you treat people."

Her mother's voice rang in her ears .
