"There's a letter to Mr Xiao." The housemaid called for him and left the postman as Xiaojun made his way to the front door.

"A letter for you, sir."

Thanking the postman, he took the letter and opened it on the spot. As he read, the only words that could be processed were:

"LEGAL ADVICE REGARDING A LOAN"

Quickly yet calmly, he tore the letter into little pieces before chucking it out of the door and slamming it close. He walked away, trying to figure out what he would do.

Most people would like to be in a quiet, peaceful place, like their room or the garden to clear out their thoughts and stress. Yet here Xiaojun was, at Blood Moon Bar, a foreigner-friendly bar for everyone to party in. A place where the loud music could be enough to give anyone a headache. But he didn't care. He smoked his cigarette and flicked his lighter on and off, paying the utmost attention to the bright spark of fire that ignited, then watched it disappear. He was so focused that he didn't notice the bartender quietly slip a bill under his arm. Effortlessly, he pulled out a card from his pocket and threw it on top of the bill, letting the bartender take it away.

Frowning, the worker returned the card to Xiaojun, making him confused. In his broken English, he spoke. "Sir, the card isn't working. Can you give me another one?"

"If you can't speak English, just stick to Mandarin." He got out his wallet and scanned for another card, which he didn't find. Sighing, he turned to the man. "Could you try my card again?"

Obeying Xiaojun, the bartender inserted the card into the scanner, getting the same result as before. "Sorry, sir, your card isn't working."

Frustrated, Xiaojun picked up the card and waved it around. "What do you mean it doesn't work? Maybe it's your faulty machine-"

Suddenly, a beautiful woman sat down next to Xiaojun and slid her card to the man behind the counter. "I'll buy him his drink."

Unlike Xiaojun, the woman spoke fluently in English, the words flowing flawlessly out of her mouth. The bartender took the card despite being confused. "Thank you, miss."

While the barkeeper scanned the card once more, the mysterious lady sat down comfortably on the chair and propped her elbows on the counter. "One Jack on the rocks."

"Excuse me, but did you say you are paying for my drink?" Xiaojun asked, not being able to process the information.

Lilith flickered her eyes towards Xiaojun. Well, more like staring into his soul. Those kohl-rimmed eyes gave her a sly and snake-like look. It slightly frightened Xiaojun. "Yes."

"I can arrange the money, my card will work," replied Xiaojun, trying his best to avoid the female's intimidating gaze.

Battering her eyelashes, Lilith looked down before looking back up at the male. "I insist."

Nervously, Xiaojun picked up his glass and had a big gulp before putting the wine down.  "I don't have enough courage to say no to a beautiful woman like you," he muttered.

Unfortunately for him, Lilith overheard and chuckled. "Are you single?"

"No, married." He lifted his arm to reveal a ring.

"What a shame, I was hoping you'd be single."

After a while of silence, Xiaojun decided to break the ice. "I was curious- have we met before? I mean, do we know each other?"

The female stared intently at the table before turning her head. "No, we don't."

Xiaojun started feeling weird. Despite being annoyed at the short answers, something about this woman didn't seem right to him.

"Everything is connected in the universe. Everyone is connected." Lilith stopped for a brief moment to pick up her glass and held it up against the dim party lights, inspecting it like it were poison. "So, what we do as an individual affects the whole. In that sense, we do know each other. Simple philosophy."

Taking a brief sip, Xiaojun placed the glass down and leaned back on the chair. "I'm Xiaojun."

"Lilith." Her eyes were still piercing into Xiaojun's, making the male squirm under the uncomfortable gaze he was receiving. Her name was uncommon, making Xiaojun assume that she was a foreigner.

"I have seen you here before. Do you come here often?"

Lilith played with her drink, still watching Xiaojun. "I did not. But I do now."

The male rubbed his nape, clearly confused by her. "What do you mean?"

Resting her head on the palm of her hand, Lilith turned her body and shuffled closer to Xiaojun. The man could feel the girl's breath tickling his ear. "I like you."

Xiaojun backed up and stroked his temples, surprised by the sudden statement. He pointed up his ring finger, in a way that people from afar would think it was his middle finger. Lilith smirked, almost as if it was part of her plan.

"I still like you," she responded blandly.

She turned to the front. "Card, please." The bartender rushed over with the card and handed it over to Lilith. She took the card and tucked it into her wallet, before placing it on the inside of her faux jacket.

"See you," she said in a seductive tone.

She put her hands in her pockets and walked away whilst swinging her hips, Xiaojun unintentionally staring as Lilith left. Shaking his head, he straightened his back before gulping down the last of his drink.

"Nothing to see. Nothing to see at all."
