He woke up with an awful headache. His vision was blurry at first, but soon he was able to see clearly. He woke up feeling fine until he remembered the night before. The real-life nightmare. He shouldn't have been worried. The person who died was someone he didn't know, and he never met them. So why was he feeling like that? A stab of guilt rushed over him.

That was still a person, and they probably had a family. Ugh, I feel so bad.

An annoying ringtone went off, and he quickly picked up the phone to see who was calling him in the morning. He swept his uncombed hair back for him to see the caller ID.

"Hey, who's this? What's up? Why are you calling so early in the morning?"

"I have called you so many times. I'm Lusie, Yiran's friend and senior colleague."

"Oh sorry, I was asleep. Anyways, why are you calling?"

"Yiran had an incident! Did something happen between you two yesterday night?"

Xiaojun's face grew worried with concern as he listened to what the other male had to say.

"He got very upset yesterday and wanted to go back home. We even arranged a car for her. As he ran down the stairs, she slipped and fell."

The older male's heartbeat sped up as he heard that. Yiran fell?

"Yiran is alright, she didn't face any major injuries. But the baby in her womb died."

"The... baby...?" Xiaojun managed to utter, his voice barely audible. Tears began forming as they fell one after the next, staining his face.

"Yiran was four months pregnant. She wanted to surprise you, that's why she didn't tell you the news."

His breathing became unsteady as he listened and processed what he heard.

"On your anniversary, she wanted to give you the news in person."

Xiaojun tried to speak, but nothing came out.

"Hello? Xiaojun? Are you listening? Please immediately contact Hendery! She's in great mental shock!"

Nothing was audible anymore. He quietly removed the phone from his ear and slipped it on the table.  He understood everything. He realized his mistake.

He dropped his head into his palms as he let out a frustrated scream. He didn't care if the neighbours complained. Because his selfishness had caused a great deal of damage. To him. And to Yiran. He began hitting his head with his fists. Then he slapped his cheeks. But he knew that no matter what he did, he couldn't change what happened.
