Tamaki Amajiki x Reader - Why?

No one's POV

"Why?" asked the little child next to Tamaki. He didn't know why he wanted to be a hero to be honest, but he wasn't expecting to be asked such a question.

Timeskip to high school

Tamaki and Y/n had been friends since they were kids, including Mirio. Tamaki had started to develop feelings for Y/n, and he had told Mirio expecting to be told to not confess and let the feelings go away, but Mirio said the complete opposite. He told him to go ahead and that he'll help him.

Y/n wasn't expecting to be friends with the Big Three and they weren't expecting to be asked out by Suneater himself either. 

"Why?" they asked. 

"B-because you're b-beautiful/h-handsome, you take care of others, you smile b-brighter than the sun, and you n-never give up." Tamaki said as he fumbled on his words.

Y/n just nodded their head yes. Tamaki hugged them and gave their forehead a kiss. He never asked Y/n why they would always ask why, because he didn't want to embarrass them. 

Present Day Your POV

"Why?" I asked.

I got no response, but its not like I wanted one or expected one. I grabbed the bouquet of   tsubaki (red camellia) and placed them by Amajiki's grave.  He always was considerate about my bad habit of always asking why and always answered. This time, he won't be able to.  He died protecting me from one of Shigaraki's attacks. He died in my arms and he said three words that no one has ever told me, not even my parents : I love you. 

I never got to ask him why he said that and what it meant, but he had just kissed me and held me close as if I were the one dying and in pain.

I decided to head back to the apartment we used to share. When I got there, I opened the door, placed my vans down on the iris colored mat, and headed to the kitchen to make some food.

"Hey baby, I just got home. What do you want to eat?" I asked the picture of Tamaki sitting by the window sill. "Taiyaki, that sounds nice. I'll make some ramen while I'm at it too." I smiled at the picture. 

I got to cooking and finished cooking in about two hours. I set up the table when I heard a knock on the door. I went to open it, but then I heard a voice outside.

"Hello? Is anyone home? I just was sent to give this letter by Mirio Togata and Nejire Hado to Y/N Y/L. I'll leave it here." said the person.

I saw them walk off and went to go get the letter. I opened the door quickly, grabbed what was there, closed the door, and locked it. I opened the letter and started to read through it.

Dear Y/N,

I hope you're doing all right. I know me leaving you wasn't what you expected. You probably have some questions, well I have the answers.

I died for you because I wanted you to continue your hero work and become the greatest hero.

I hugged you the way I did before I left because I knew it was going to be awhile before someone could hug you like that again.

I said I love you because it's true. I know no one has ever told you that and if they did, you brushed it off. I really do love you and that will never change. Please move on and continue to live your life for me. I know it may not be easy, but please try. I love you Y/N Y/L.

I just stood there, shaking, crying uncontrollably, and I fell to my knees because of how much it hurt me knowing, that I didn't say I love you back.

I'm sorry Tamaki, I love you too, but I did too late.
