Question: (Paraphrased) Dragon headshot please.

Asked by: IvorySans

The main thing I will be focusing on in this tutorial is the general structure and technicalities of a dragon headshot, so I will kinda be brushing past everything not related to that lol.

Step One: Facial Structure! In red is the general shapes and guidelines I used to construct the face. Using shapes is especially important when working with a 3D object so you can accurately portray the right perspective. For example, the line between the eyes is the line I used to line up the eyes acurately! (Go figure lol.) Shapes can also add diversity to your drawing. Different combinations of shapes make completely different dragons. I mostly used squares and blocky shapes, but if I used circles or triangles then it would be completely different.

Step Two: For the neck, I usually draw lines as borders for different sections of the neck, usually to separate different rows of scales

Step Three: For triangular scales in the middle, draw a line in between two lines to serve as the middle point. then for the surrounding non-triangular scales just draw it, and then complete the pattern! Remember to curve the scales accordingly.
