"hey, eddie! what's up? " richie beamed, walking off into a separate room with eddie.
eddie twirled his fingers around each other nervously.
"hi, uh, you know how i wanted to talk to you? "
"yeah, what's going on, eds? "
eddie cleared his throat, and richie suddenly felt like he might've known what was coming.
turned out he did in fact know what was coming; richie swallowed his nervousness.
"richie, uh, i like you, more than a friend, in fact, and i was wondering if you'd be okay with going on a date? " and richie was thrown for a hell of a loop. richie lost his voice for a solid moment.
richie shoved his hands in his pocket, eddie looking around nervously. richie then understood why bill had been talking to eddie before they had come here, hyping him up.
"um, i-i i have a boyfriend...? " richie's statement slowly dwindled into a question. he lied straight through his teeth, knowing full well that a) he did not have a boyfriend and b) eddie would've known if he had had a boyfriend.
"oh, you do? oh fuck, i'm sorry! i didn't know, fuck, i'm sorry, man, i hope this doesn't make stuff weird, uh," eddie rambled, feeling tons of regret, and a lot of anger at bill for convincing him to ask richie out.
"no, no, it's okay, you're my homie, eds, but uh... don't feel bad, i-we haven't told anyone."
"can i ask... who is it?"
fuck.
"uh it's..." richie stretched out the s, "stan. it's stan."
"o-oh! i should've known, sorry man." eddie apologized again, "i'm actually not that surprised."
"you aren't? "
richie must have been overthinking it. what did eddie mean? "i'm not that surprised", what did that mean?
"no, i mean... no not really."
"okay. well, uh, we were going to be public soon anyway," why did he say that?!
fuck!
"alright, well, cool, good for you guys! we can forget this happened, yeah?" eddie laughed, unsure.
"yeah, for sure, dude."
