I was awake before the twins the next morning, and decided to go to the Great Hall without them. They'd find me, and I wanted to look at my schedule before they snatched it from me to compare theirs.
I sat by myself at the Gryffindor table, leaving room for the boys to sit when they finally rolled out of bed. I filled my plate with apple cinnamon oatmeal, and some peanut butter toast before grabbing my schedule from my school bag. 'Great' I thought as I examined it, 'Double potions first thing, what a cherry way to start the day.'
It wasn't all bad though, I got two more fun classes in the afternoon, divination, and defence against the dark arts. And with Mad-Eye Moody as the professor, it was looking to be an interesting year.
Suddenly my schedule was yanked from my hands, I looked up to see Fred Weasley standing behind me, dangling my schedule high above my head. "Morning, love." He said, claiming the seat beside me.
Lee and George took a seat on the other side of the table from us, making a more even conversation. "Morning, fellas. Fred, why don't you put my schedule down so we can all compare ours on the table."
He did, and I noticed when he put his beside mine, they were almost identical. "Fred! I thought we were supposed to have all our classes together!" George exclaimed.
Fred smiled sheepishly, which wasn't something he often did. "Oh yeah, that's weird. They must've switched my schedule around."
I looked at him quizzically, none of us bought it, but didn't push. My heart fluttered, 'Did he switch all his classes to be with me?'
I pushed the thought from my head quickly. No need to get my hopes up, it was probably a coincidence. Maybe they did move it around on him.
I had all my classes today with Fred, I didn't realize he had ever taken divination, but it would probably be more enjoyable with him cracking jokes with me. I smiled at the thought. George and Lee had double potions with us in the morning, which we all complained about for a few minutes, and planned how we could make Snape's Monday mornings hellish.
Fred's eyes suddenly lit up. "Georgie! This is the perfect opportunity for our ageing potion!" He exclaimed.
"Yes! Perfect!" George replied, before turning to me. "Will you help us swipe the ingredients we need? We won't be able to brew it in class, Snape'll know immediately."
"Yes, I guess I'll help you." I sighed, "We could use Moaning Myrtle's bathroom? No one ever goes in there."
"Brilliant!" Fred exclaimed, "Glad you've come 'round, love."
I blushed and quietly continued eating, letting the boys plan. I was to grab the newt spleens and porcupine quills, while Fred rounded up the other few ingredients. George swiped a banana from the breakfast table, the easiest ingredient to grab for the potion. Lee promised to keep watch with George, but Fred had a better idea. "I say, we create a distraction." His eyes had their familiar mischievous glint to them.
"Got something in mind?" Lee asked.
"Oh yes, I think this is the perfect opportunity to test the newest invention from Weasley and Weasley, the Decoy Detonator." Fred said proudly, George began to nod enthusiastically.
"How does it work?" I asked.
Fred looked delighted. "So, you set it off, and it shoots away as far as it can go, and makes an absolute racket. It also lets off a cloud of black smoke, it's the perfect distraction for any situation!"
"Sounds perfect, you got one handy?" Lee asked, as eager as the rest of us to cause some trouble.
"No, I'll have to run back to the common room, I'll go now. You guys better get to potions!" Fred said, rising from the table.
