I moved slowly through the area behind my door, occasionally pausing to change a few minor things or scratch something out.
No, no, no. That is awful, how could anyone do that?
I frowned and reached o ut to change the offending detail, images already running through my head about what could happen instead. It disappeared, leaving a blank space open for me to change.
"Oh, don't change that! I liked that part!" A voice suddenly said behind me.
I startled and spun around, hand flying to sword and yanking it from my belt in a rough motion. It leveled at her neck, her eyes wide. She slowly reached out and took a step back.
"Sorry, sorry! I did not mean to scare you!"
Tilting my head, I relaxed the sword at my side and stared at her. Her bright, tye-died shirt contrasted horribly with my room, its bright colors so different from the muted shades I surrounded myself with. Her one hand remained firmly clamped around the other wrist. The name popped into my mouth before I could even understand what she was doing here.
"Bloxiegirl123?" I guessed. She nodded and stuck out her hand, which I shook timidly. Never did like people, that wasn't about to change.
"Falloutfandoms, it's so nice to finally get to meet you! I love the covers you designed for me!" She said. I shrugged.
"It wasn't an issue, I enjoyed it. You were the first time someone actually commissioned me." She nodded earnestly and twisted what I had determined an object around her wrist.
"I'm sure you'll get more, you're designs are awesome." She smiled. "I go by Bella, by the way. You know, boring user names." I tapped my sword nervously.
"Uh, Cavet. Hi." I said. Her eyes grew round.
"Cavet? Like in your story?" She asked, and I nodded. "You named them after yourself?"
I rubbed a hand behind my head. "Yeah, it sounds cool and all, it also means guard in some old language."
She bit her lip. "Oh. I thought you made it up this whole time." She smiled again, and her eyes drifted to the part I had been just about to change. "You really should keep that, though. It's good." I raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah?" I asked. She nodded firmly, and I stared at her questioningly for a moment longer before turning around and adding it back in.
"Looks awesome to me," She said once I had turned around. I stared at her quizzically.
After a long moment of silence, she cleared her throat. "So, any favorite doors around here? It'd be interesting to see where you get the ideas for your stuff."
I shrug but pull out my sword nonetheless. "I get most of my ideas by myself, but I do have a few favorites, yeah." I rubbed the gem on my sword, then offered it to her. She gently touched her bracelet to it the gem, and the room shifted and vanished, our surroundings solidifying into the red carpeting and beige paint of a hallway.
"Here?" She asked, looking around. I stared at the door we had landed by.
"No, this isn't it. Not even close. That's odd."
"Maybe we tripped up the system or something?" She said reassuringly. "Try again."
I rubbed the gem and she once again touched it, making the hallway change. I shook my head once we could see.
"This isn't it either. We're even farther away, I think." I muttered. She opened her mouth to replay when a door suddenly opened down the hall, we both whipped around to look at it.
"Um, can people become invisible?" She asked.
"Not that I know of." I replied.
We crept forward slowly, my sword out and held in front of us. The door was black and quiet, a seemingly empty room. A shiver crawled up my spine as it suddenly slammed shut in front of us and Bella startled slightly. Down the hall, there was the sound of another door opening and closing, and another, and another. Bella grabbed my hand and forced my sword to her bracelet, yanking me forward as we traveled.
She huffed appreciatively. We were outside her door, and we were both watching to see if another door would open. When it didn't she turned to me.
"Have you even seen anything like that?" She asked.
"Never even heard of it." My eyes drifted to her door behind her. "Say, did you just edit this?"
She shook her head. "No, why?" I pointed at the door frame, which showed that an edit had been made a short time ago. She stretched up and tapped at the frame, making the display flicker, but it stayed the same.
"That," she announced, "was definitely not me."
