"Hello!" Alex cooed as Lucy ran to her, building blocks in her arms. "Whatcha up to, Luce?"

"Lex, Lex, blocks!" she screeched, holding them up. Alex smiled. "Hometime?" she asked, looking around.

"Just about," Alex said. "You wanna put those away so we can get going?" Lucy nodded and ran back to her friends just as Alex signed her out. She turned back to see Lucy carefully putting her blocks back in the bins, organizing them by colour.

She ran to her cubby and grabbed her bag and sweater before returning to Alex. "Hometime!" Lucy waved back to her peers before taking Alex's hand. "Bus, Lex?"

"Mhm, we're gonna take the bus home." Lucy giggled, skipping next to her. "Then your daddy's gonna come and get you." Lucy nodded.

"Yay," she said. "Almost had two nap times, Lex," she said. Alex raised her eyebrows as the two headed to the bus stop. "Two whole nap times!"

"Were you tired?" Lucy nodded and yawned, just to prove it. Alex laughed and they stopped walking to sit on the bench. "Are you still tired?" she asked, pulling the toddler onto the bench before sitting down next to her.

"Uh huh," she said with a smile. "Teensy bit."

"Awh."

"Nap at Lex's bed?" she asked. Alex nodded. "Thank you."

"Of course, angel." She giggled as she stood on the bench, reaching for her bag behind her. "You got something to show me?" Lucy nodded.

"Sh," she said, a finger to her lips as she pulled out a piece of purple construction paper and handed it to Alex. "For daddy!" she exclaimed in a whisper.

"For his birthday?" Alex asked. Lucy nodded eagerly as Alex look at it. Lucy beamed as she gasped. "Woah, look at all of your drawings!"

"Uh huh," she said proudly. "Make Lex one too- tomorrow!" she said, holding her bag carefully, just in case Alex grabbed it to see.

"Awh, thank you," she said with a smile. "Are you excited for our birthday- we're gonna go somewhere fun!"

"Fun?" Lucy asked. Alex nodded as the bus pulled up. She picked her up and carried her to the bus, swiping her pass before sitting down at the seats in the front with the toddler in her lap, bags and all.

"We're gonna do something epic, I bet," she said with a smile. "'Member last year- we went to skyzone?" Alex frowned.

"Sky?"

"You're too small to remember," she said with a smile. Lucy giggled, leaning against Alex.

"Got chom-somes, Lex?" Lucy asked after a couple of stops in silence. Alex looked down.

"Hm?"

"Got chom-somes?" Alex's smile faltered a little.

"Mhm, everyone's got them," she whispered. "Where'd you learn about that- you're so teeny." Lucy giggled a hand over her mouth for a second.

"Bri-n, Bri-n and Jaedon got boom!" she whispered, arms wide. Alex grinned wide. "Boom and, and Ms. Ne-son said they got swi-ched!"

"Did they really- Brian and... Jaedon?" Lucy nodded eagerly. "They found their soulmates at such a young age," Alex cooed, heart melting.

"Uh huh!" Alex sighed. She used to wonder if she'd ever find out why hers- why her pairing was already complete. "Luce got one?"

"A soulmate?" Alex asked. Lucy nodded. "Of course you do!"
