The sound of your soft footsteps was almost entirely muffled by the waterfall surrounding you. You softly touched your lips, smelling the iron in his blood, now spilled all over you. You could tell this wouldn't be the last time.

"Hey, are you listening?" A deep voice says. You look to your side, seeing Kisame's mild worried expression as you two walk towards your first mission. "I'm sorry, I guess I got distracted" Your voice echoed through the forest, building an awkward silence. Pain gave you brief explanations on what specific information you would have to gather, a location. And nothing else. You look to your side once more, Kisame seemed pretty confident, you were probably overreacting to what could be just a simple mission.

"So, what made you leave your village?" Deep down, you really appreciated how kind Kisame was. It could seem like just small talk, but you know he's aware that you have a complicated past, especially when referring to your old village.

"I know they would've seen me as a monster. So it was better to leave before they figured everything out"  Your soft-spoken words clearly hid pain behind them. Kisame silently thinks to himself before finally asking.

"Do you regret anything?"

It was such a simple question, but the way he said it sent shivers down your spine. You couldn't tell if he was silently judging you or just curious. You take a deep breath, before slightly smiling to yourself.

"Not at all"

Your soft voice echoed through the forest once again. Kisame chuckles, giving you an understanding smile, you smile back.

You two finally arrive in a crowded village. The huddled constructions leave little to no space on the streets, which are occupied by dozens of people. You and Kisame quickly change clothes. The crowded streets prove to be quite a burden, and in no time, Kisame is out of sight.

As you try to find a way out of this mess, someone runs by you, pushing you strong enough to fall. You close your eyes, waiting for your soft body to fall on the hard concrete streets, ready to be stepped by the massive amount of people in there. Before that could happen, you feel a strong grip on your shoulders, you look up, only to see Kisame's face inches away from yours. He quickly helps you regain your balance.

"You need to be careful here, this place is almost always crowded". He says before giving an awkward chuckle.

You give him a thankful smile as you two start to walk once again. After some time, Kisame leads you into a small inn. The place is quiet, with a relaxing atmosphere. You look around the place as your partner goes to the counter. To your left, a couple of wooden tables with unlit candles fill the area. To your right, more tables surround a big hallway filled with closed doors. You walk towards Kisame, the man behind the counter hands him a small golden key with the number '006' carved into it.

"Bad news pal". Kisame says, turning to you. "There's only one room available". He says it in somewhat of a worried tone.

"I don't mind sharing a room with you"  Kisame gives you a relieved smile as you follow him through the hallway. Your mind starts to wander as the place slowly gets darker, the almost entirely melted candles provide just enough light for you to spot a big wooden door with the number '006'. Kisame unlocks the door, you two enter the big room. About 7 candles are lit around the place, giving just enough light for you to walk around the room. In the middle, a medium-sized bed occupies most of the place, a fuzzy red blanket can be seen on the top of it. In the corner, a simple door, leading to the bathroom.

"Do you want me to shower first?"  You say as Kisame locks the door.

"Uhm, sure". He says, placing Samehada on the table. You enter the bathroom, two more unlit candles can be seen on the corners of the small area. You spot a box of matches laying on the sink and use them to give the place some illumination. The warm water falls on your body as your mind drifts away, thinking about nothing in particular. After drying your body and property dressing, you leave the bathroom. Kisame is sitting on the bed, looking at the rain outside, the soft wind coming from outside makes the flames from the candles dance softly. After noticing your presence, Kisame proceeds to take his things and disappear into the shadows of the bathroom. You sit where he was, looking at the once crowded streets, which are now only filled with the unforgiving rain falling in the cement. You start brushing your hair, humming to a lullaby you remember from your childhood.

This moment feels so unreal, it's almost as if no problems could ever go through your mind. You lose track of time as you continue to hum, only to stop once you notice Kisame, leaning against the doorframe, cautiously watching you. You can only respond to his intense gaze by giving him a sweet smile, before placing the hairbrush back in its place in the drawer.

"You know, I can just sleep on the floor". Kisame says, grabbing one of the pillows on the bed.

"Why would you do that?". You say, hugging your knees against your chest, staring at him with your sleepy eyes.

"I wouldn't wanna make you uncomfortable, you know". He says, scratching the back of his head.

"You'd never make me uncomfortable, Kisame" You manage to say before laying on the bed, already closing your eyes. Kisame gives you a weak chuckle, before carefully laying next to you. You can feel as he covers you two with the blanket, making you hug your pillow tighter.

"Sleep well" You weakly whisper before falling asleep. Kisame gives a sweet smile you fail to notice before falling asleep as well.

The small sunlight coming from the half-open window softly lays upon your face, waking you up. You sit in the bed stretching your arms as you look around the room. All candles have melted entirely, allowing the morning sunlight to light up the place. You slowly try getting up, but before you could do so, Kisame's hand grabs yours. You look at your, still asleep, partner as he grunts at your attempts to get up. You finally give up, leaning on the bed frame as you watch the peacefulness of this place. It's hard to know if you're enjoying the place or simply silently watching Kisame sleep.

For once, in a long time, you're not hungry.
