How you met Sodapop

It was summertime when you first met Sodapop, you were performing in your very first rodeo, it was the first one of the summer, to say you were nervous was an understatement you had already thrown up twice, once in your horses stable and right now as you brought your horse to the barrier, you were getting ready for your first event, tie-down roping. Your Pa had been teaching you how to catch the calf and tie three of its legs together, now you being about to be 15 had gathered the courage to enter a rodeo.

You mounted your horse, Star, and patted her neck "we got this Star, we're going to place first, we just gotta give it our all." Star neighed and nodded her head while stomping her front left leg in the dirt. You chuckled and said "sassy as always huh Star?" you put the rope in your mouth and they had let the calf go, then they opened your gate and Star took off towards the calf, on your first try you got the rope around the calves neck and dismounted Star and ran towards the calf throwing it down to the ground and tying three legs. Throwing your hands up in the air, signaling to the judges that you finished, you whistled for Star and she came trotting by as you mounted her while she was moving, showing the crowd what a diva she was.

The crowd was cheering for your time, which was 9 seconds. You smiled it was the best time you had yet. You were let out of the arena and were heading toward the stables to feed and take your saddle off Star, as you were taking the saddle off her a guy approached you. "Hey that was a good time and you did great out there, I haven't seen you in other rodeos before." You looked at the handsome guy standing by your stable, he looked like a movie star. You were too into his looks to reply, Star nudged you with her nose towards him and you quickly gave her a look, "my names Y/N, this is my first rodeo. My Pa said I should enter so I did." you said as you shrugged your shoulders. "My name is Sodapop, are you doing any other events today?" he asked with a killer smile on his face.

You smiled back at him and said "I'm dong bronc riding a little later today if you wanna watch." all of a sudden you heard a shrill voice whining, "Soda do you have to be in here? It stinks to hell!" A girl came up and clung to Sodapop, Star whined and shook her head side to side mocking the girl that came. You quickly turned around and clicked your tongue twice letting Star know not to act up.

"Sandy this is Y/N she's the girl that tied the calf in 9 seconds, Y/N this is Sandy my girlfriend," Sodapop said, you held your hand out to shake her hand, as she gripped yours she let go and quickly brought her hand to her chest and said "why are your hands so rough? They feel like a man's hand." with disgust, her comment suddenly made you self-conscious. You stuck your hands in your pockets and looked away. "It was nice meeting you Sodapop, Sandy," you said and quickly walked away.

You heard Star huff and whine, you'd be back to talk to her later tonight. You made your way to the food stall and got a bottle of water and some fries, something to at least put in your stomach. A while later you were behind the barrier on the bronco waiting for the barrier to open. Once it cleared your mind and did everything you could to stay on, you were thrown off just as the buzzer went off, as you stood up to run to the barrier, the horse kicked you in your lower back into the barrier.

The medic that they had on stood by quickly came to you to look you over, you knew you'd have super bad bruising on your lower back, and a decent size bruise on your cheek from being kicked into the barrier. You found your way back to the stable and was with Star, she kept putting her nose to your cheek and would angrily huff and rake her hoof in the dirt. "Star I'm fine, I just won't be able to ride for a few weeks at best, don't worry about me." she again nudged your cheek and licked it. "This will heal in no time, we did well today. I'm very proud of you Star."

"I'm proud of you too Y/N," Sodapop said out of the blue, you jumped when he spoke and looked over at him. "Thanks, Sodapop, we did our best today but we'll be more prepared next time. Where's your girlfriend at?" you asked as you didn't hear or see her. "She went home, she got bored watching the events. How are you? Are you okay?" he asked and you blushed. You nodded your head and said "yeah I'm fine, my lower back will hurt like hell the next few weeks, but I'll live." a smile made its way to your face. After that day you and Soda would always hang out at the ranch, you would teach him different things and you would always score him free tickets to the rodeos.
